If you still need to apply for your passport for your honeymoon, do it now! The fee is going from $100 to $135 starting next Tuesday. Also, if you need extra pages, it’s free now but will be $82 starting next week!

Hey, I’ve been meaning to do this for awhile. Everytime I look at the website I get so confused though. I got married in October, already had a passport under my old last name (doesn’t expire until 2014) and now need to get one with my new last name.
A friend told me they could just put a stamp in my old passport that said my name changed. But I didn’t see anything about that on the website. The site made it sound like I had to apply for a new passport.
Anyone know what you actually have to do if you were a passport holder but need a new one to reflect your name change?

@ amariem25- I was under the impression that you have to get a new passport to reflect your name change so that’s what I did. If you have had your passport less than a year then you can use a different form. More information here: http://travel.state.gov/passport/correcting/correcting_2654.html

Thanks for posting that!! I need to get mine renewed soon and this is a good motivation to do it this weekend!! 🙂

I really wish I could renew right now. Mine doesn’t expire for another year, but I need to use it to fly next weekend. I managed to get my name change done quicker than I expected but I bought plane tickets for six weeks after the wedding in my maiden name. Now the only thing in my maiden name is my passport and a couple credit cards. I have to match the ticket to get on the plane.
Oh well, at least it doesn’t expire till next June. Maybe I can leave the country and feel like I got my money’s worth for the last passport.

Holy cow! We need to get ours so we will do it on Saturday! We were going to wait until after the wedding because we weren’t going to go out of the country until next year—THANKS!!!

Hey, so if I’m renewing by mail, then can I still send in the lower fee, as long as the application is postmarked before Tuesday?

Fiance and I are going for pictures this afternoon when he gets home from work, and submitting the applications tomorrow morning, bright and early when the Passport Processing section of the P.O. opens up. (And finding a nearby P.O. that even DOES passports on Saturdays was FUN, too!)

Oye, as if passports didn’t cost enough already! I’m glad we got ours 6 months ago! Though I’m going to have to reapply for mine when I change my name 🙁

I sent my renewal app in the mail over the weekend! It actually wasn’t that difficult. I filled out the form online, printed it off, sent in two new photos, my old passport and a marriage certificate. You get the marriage certificate and the old passport back too!
Thanks for letting me know about the fee increase. I wouldn’t have found out had it not been for wedding bee.
