My mother is convinced that I need a “getaway” dress. I don’t even know what that means! I think she means a dress that I’ll change into at the end of the reception, then make our “getaway” in, but I’m not really sure. Did any of you do this, or did you just getaway in your wedding gown?

hi farmersdaughter! if i’m not mistaken, you’re also an NC bride like me, right?
you’ve prompted me to think about a getaway dress for myself now! since we’re going right out with our friends afterward, i’m sure i’ll need something other than my very sparkly big white dress to wear to local establishments.
another thing to ponder!

I’m sort of an NC bride in that I live in NC, but I’m not getting married here. What part are you in?
Thats a good point that you’ll probably want something else to wear out after the reception – maybe something white so you’re still bridal, but not long and poofy! Let me know if you find anything awesome =) I think I’m going straight to the B&B with my fiance after our reception, so I don’t know if this is really necessary for me or not…

I’ve seen both. If you are having an actual send-off it might be nice. The purpose behind the getaway dress or suit was that couples used to have earlier receptions and then jet off to their honeymoon flight. The getaway outfit served its purpose of you looking fabulous but ready to travel.

I have a getaway dress for the NEXT day. My parents are having post-wedding Memorial Day BBQ, and I’m wearing a white dress with rhinestone buttons, and we are leaving right from it to the airport. I have a white pillbox hat I’m considering too, but that might be too costumey.

We are going straight to the hotel where we will be leaving from for our honeymoon the next morning so I will need to change so I can leave my dress with my mom. I think I am going to get a dress like this:
And buy Fiance a light tan suit.

I do think getaway dresses are a good and fun idea. I like this one
