I need to find a wedding dress and have it in my hands ready for alterations no later than mid-September, which gives me a whopping 4 months to find a dress, buy it and get it shipped to me
Someone told me that sample dresses are all around a size 6. I won’t fit into a 6 and I don’t think I could get one altered to fit me, so that means buying off the rack/sample will be out for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions for which designers I should focus on? Or any reputable websites that ship dresses quickly? I’ve been checking some of the used dress sites (I don’t mind used as long as it’s been drycleaned and is in great condition still) but nothing is appealling to me.
Thanks in advance!

As for trying stuff on off the rack, I vote for David’s Bridal. They have horrible customer service for the most part but a huge selection of sizes to try on in store. Alfred Angelo is another good option as far as having a lot of sizes to pick from. Even if you don’t end up picking one of their dresses, it can give you an idea of the style you like so you can order from somewhere else.
As for online dresses, Dresssilyme quotes 2 months for custom dresses (except when it’s Chinese New Year which has already passed.) But I would order ASAP for just in case it needs additional alterations when it arrives. I am ordering my dress in June for my November wedding.

@orchidaloha: Maggie Sottero has “priority gowns” that might work out for you.
I don’t know about sample sizes always being a size 6, the boutique I went to had “samples” from size 2-16. It’s going to depend on where you’re going.

Church street bridal on facebook. Most of their gowns are size 8 since they are samples. And theyre high end dresses for very low prices. Plus the proceeds go to victims of abuse.

My Mori Lee came 2 months after I ordered it, with the estimated time being 4 months. I was told that the dress would most likely come in 2-3 months for a Mori Lee.

Are you far from Maryland? Vows is a reseller store of samples, overstocks, and runway dresses. They are huge and have lots of styles to take home the same day. Not all the dresses are on their website, but here it is: http://www.bridepower.com and they are also on the show I Found the Gown.
