I’d say the jeweler is right– those pre-drilled rings are often difficult to alter or improve.  If it’s in your budget I’d recommend a new setting for such a goregeous stone.

I think you need to find out from your jeweler the type of setting will fit that black diamond.   Or go to a jeweler or jewelery store that you want to use and have them show you the apporiate settings that will fit your stone.  I didn’t pick a setting and a stone for my ring but I’d assume that they depth of your stone would have some say regarding the setting that will fit it.
