I have a lot of tattoos already, so there w as never any question in my mind that I would want to get something to represent each of my children. Now that Dear Daughter is 9 months old, I think it’s finally time to start really thinking about what to get.
I’m considering something like a flower on a vine, where the vine spells out her name , and then maybe the flower itself is colored like an opal, which is her birthstone. I like this idea because it would be easy to extend the vine and add more flowers for additional children. And if it’s done well, it could be quite subtle
Did you get a tattoo to commemorate your child? If so, what did you get and where on your body? If not, is it something you’d ever consider?

I love tattoos anyway, and I think getting ones for your kids is a great idea (unlike getting a tattoo of your partner’s name, which is a terrible idea, for obvious reasons!).
Your options sound lovely.
As an aside, I was thinking of getting a paw print tattoo to remember one of my pets (!). LOL, it clearly doesn’t take much for me to want to get inked!

iarebridezilla: I would totally get a tattoo for my child. But I would wait until the can write(even if it’s crazy messy) and get a tattoo of their name or something that they have written.

I didn’t, and I would not consider it, but tattoos aren’t my thing:-)!!!

I don’t have any tattoos, and I never considered it. But after 2 c-sections and a scar that doesn’t seem to want to heal properly, I’m thinking I could get a tattoo around the scar in honor of my children. I’m not sure though, and I have lots of time to think about it since the scar is still changing so I will wait at least until Dear Daughter is 2 years old before doing anything.

iarebridezilla: I did! It’s the only tattoo I have.
I commissioned an artist that I went to nursing school with to create it for me. It is just smaller than the palm of my hand, and is tattooed to my left shoulder blade. It is black outlined with red shading, a Celtic style knotted/woven heart, with two “arms” of infinity symbols extending from each side of it. “One mothers heart with two arms of infinite love” is what I call it, and what I gave to my artist for inspiration.
it is a one of a kind, and obviously has very special meaning to me 🙂

Rachel631: haha yeah I can’t believe Dear Daughter is 9 months old and I haven’t even done it yet. You’d think I’d have jumped at the opportunity to get another tattoo for a “good” reason 😉
mommytobee: that would be really amazing! I have a couple of scars that have ugly memories attached and I’ve been looking into white tattoos that work with the scars to turn them into something beautiful. White tattoos can be absolutely stunning … well, any tattoos that work with scars are pretty darn neat!

Sweetjennygirl: that sounds beautiful 🙂 would you get another tattoo if you had another child, or would the one symbolize all your children?

iarebridezilla: I’ve only ever carried & delivered two children of my own and I’ll never have more. So the two “arms of infinity” are for each of them 🙂
my kids are now 15 & 13 and I got the tattoo about 10 years ago.

iarebridezilla: Yes, I have shooting stars on my foot with my children’s intials.
Funny story, when my cousin went to get one for her son whose intials are JHS the guy doing it said “Man, you must really love your high school!”

I don’t have children yet but I want to get tattoos for them. At the moment I’m thinking of having their footprints when they’re newborns and their name and DOB 🙂

I don’t have any children yet or tattoo’s, and I wouldn’t get one but Darling Husband already has one tattoo and has mentioned if/when we do have kids, he would like to get a tattoo for each one.

Sweetjennygirl: ah, I get it! So since your children are older, what do they think of it? Do they think it’s cool that you have a tattoo representing your love for them? I’d like to think Dear Daughter will be happy someday to realize that I have her name permanently inked on me 🙂

iarebridezilla: My dad did for both of my brothers and I! It’s something he has wanted since we were young – I love it.
As for me, I have one tattoo and don’t really want more – but if I decided to get one, I definitely would for my children!
