One of the reasons we’re doing a first look is so we get to attend part of our cocktail hour, eat some appetizers, and start greeting our guests. We’re hoping to arrive around 30 minutes after everyone else arrives, halfway through the cocktail hour. Since the cocktail hour and the reception are in the exact same room, we’re trying to decide how to arrange the logistics.
We do want to be “announced” as husband and wife and have kind of an official entrance, but I don’t know if that should happen when we show up at cocktail hour, or if we would just sneak in and mingle and then be announced officially before we jump into the first dance? It certainly seems weird for us to show up, mingle, sneak back out, and then walk back in again with an announcement at the start of the reception. It also seems kinda anticlimactic for us to have a dramatic entrance during cocktail hour and then just chat with people—if we were going to skip our cocktail hour, I would do a grand entrance directly into first dance at the start of the reception so we kind of use the momentum to go into something more significant.
What do you think, bees? Any experiences to share? Should we just skip cocktail hour after all just to make this simpler, haha—or cut cocktail hour short and say the reception starts after we show up? Thanks a lot!
