So I just came across this : http://www.aisledash.com/2010/11/19/kate-middleton-engagement-ring-look-a-likes/
and I could totally see newly engaged and soon to be engaged brides rushing to get such rings…then blue rings will be all the rage.
My ring is a blue topaz I got it BEFORE Kate got hers, its actually really similar to one of the “look alikes” featured. Anyhow, I always wanted something totally different from the ordinary diamond cuz although I like classic styles I like to be a little different ( NB this post is NOT about restarting the whole diamond vs non-diamond ring debate so pleeeeease refrain from bringing it back up!)
Anyhow I’m sure blue rings will become very popular thanks to Kate and I will get caught in that new trend.
Another one I can think of is cupcakes. Cupcakes at weddings are now the “in” thing but if you seen any of my other posts you know I have a HARD time keeping myself away from cupcakes so I’m having cupcakes simply because I’m the cupcake girl long before having cupcakes at wedding was even a popular thing to do.
What other “trends” do you think might be featured in your wedding but your reason for choosing whatever it is has nothing to do with its popularity?

The Candy Buffet. I thought it was a new idea lol. Oh well! I’m obsessed with everything sweet. We are also doing cookies with milk shooters at 11 o’clock which I guess lots of people are doing now too, but again I had never seen that anywhere before.

I was the same with cupcakes….i didnt want a wedding cake! ever. Oh well! :p Turns out all my family, and his arent that “trendy” so they though it was the “most marvelous and unique idea!!!!” (suckers…..i didnt have the heart to tell them every bride and their dog does cupcakes for a wedding now…*snicker*)

The photobooth was like that for me. One day at the mall I saw a photobooth and was like omg how cool would that be to have at my wedding! Now into the wedding world I realize its around a lot. However I haven’t been to a single wedding with one yet so hopefully Ill still be trendy to all my friends and family.

hmmm good point raised about the real world and the wedding world. In the wedding world somethings seems so sickeningly overdone and the real world you hardly ever see it. Like damask. I chose damask cuz i thought it was cool before I ever joined any wedding sites and now I see it everywhere I turn but I’ve never seen a real wedding where I’m from with damask.

If sapphire engagement rings become popular now, it is actually a revival of an old trend. Traditionally, the sapphire was the stone associated with enagement, because it is a symbol for fidelity. Other colored center stones were frequently used, too. It wasn’t before the De Beers marketing campaign in the 1940s that diamond rings became all the rage.
