I’ve been to 3 different salons, tried on a total of about 15 dresses and have yet to had the feeling of “ah yes, I have to have this dress!” And I’m starting to worry I won’t have the feeling. Thers’s been a few I’ve really liked, and can see myself wearing, but none are screaming out to me. I think I’ll be the type of bride that just gets sick of looking and just buys one to get it over with. I never thought in a million years I would be like this. Did anyone else feel this way? Any advice? Should I just keep plugging along and try dresses on?

I bought a dress on my first time going shopping, ended up going back two more times and bought a completely different gown!
Honestly, I never got the tears in my eyes and feeling of “OMG this is the one!!” but I am soooo excited about my dress. I think what is holding it back is the color I tried on is not the color I want.
They didn’t have any I could even see in person in the white (only ivory) so I ordered the dress in white and I can not wait until it comes in so I can try it on and see it in person. I know it’s THE ONE but I will feel alot better once I have it on in the color I want!
So don’t be discouraged, its a HUGE decision and this is coming from someone who HATES dresses.. so imagine how I felt going in dreading how I would look in anything haha

Ooh and btw, I’ve tried on alittle over 30 gowns :p

I felt like you did and I think I tried on around 60-70 gowns, I never got that teary feeling. What was most frustrating is I would think I’d found “the one” then I’d try it back on and felt just kind of ehh.
I put a poll up on WB of the ones that I liked the most and I found myself really pulling for one. I went back to try it, and some other dresses, on and realized I didn’t even want to put any others on, just wanted to get back in the one I ended up buying.
Fifteen dresses isn’t that many, keep trying them on until you find one that you don’t want to take off. 🙂

I’ve gone to over 10 salons (I don’t even want to try to count), and tried on numerious dresses–There is always something that isn’t quite right. Actually, it’s getting annoying when the consultants put the veil on like it’s going to change my mind.
Anyway, I think after the first few places, I figured out what I wanted, but no place has had what I wanted. I’m considering ordering the dress from China so they will make exactly what I want.
Have you found things that you were really drawn towards? lace? beaded applique? Simple design? Poofy skirt? A-line vs dropped waist? Maybe if you can figure that out it’ll help with the search-you can be very specific when you walk in, or ‘worse case’, get it made by a seamstress or chop in China.

did you pick all the gowns to try on or did your consultant select a few? before going dress shopping, i had an idea of the type of dress i wanted. i looked at the designers that each store carried and printed out several gowns i wanted to try on. the first place i went to, i gave her my selections but i let her bring a few. the dress that was the most flattering on me ended up being on of the ones that my consultant selected. she was good. i later found out that my consultant is the daughter of a pretty famous medium in town.

@profiterole: Good point! The one I ended up buying was not one I picked to try on, nor would I have ever pulled it to try it on, so thank goodness my consultant pulled it for me.

Maybe go online first to see what the stores offer before you go. Print them out and show the lady. That way, you wont have to try on dresses your not interested in at all. Save you some time. 🙂
Thats what I did. I went online and printed the dresses I was interested in trying on and I eventually bought one of the ones I printed.
Dont give up. You will find the perfect dress for you.

@profiterole: I did have the consultants pull some dresses for me at the salons I’ve been to so far. At one salon, one she pulled for me is acutally one of my favorites so far! I am open to having them pull them for me, I’ll try anything on!
@escoretihw: I have definitely narrowed down the style of dress I want, narrowed it down to 2.. so now I can’t pick between those 2 lol I really like the fit & flare style, and I also love the empire waist with the full a-line skirt. In “real life” I’m a pretty flashy person, always dressed up and accessorized.. but for some reason I absolutely love the really simple, plain dresses! The less beading/sparkles the better! I’ll attach pictures of the gowns I keep thinking about & can’t get out of my head.. I’ll show the model pictures then the actual ones of me.
Obviously the dresses are wrinkly and are my size, and look better on the 6 ft 100lb model.. and like everyone always says, they look better in person then in pictuers! But you get the idea of styles I liked..
I have 2 more appointments to go to.. then hopefully I can narrow it down.. I just don’t want this to be an on-going process, spending every weekned dress shopping, then it won’t be as fun.. it’ll be more of something I have to do. I;m sure I’ll eventually find it.. and I’m sure I’ll love it! It’s just getting to that point that’s been a little disheartening..

Yesterday made my 6th bridal shop and still I haven’t found it either…I feel your pain. I can only seem to like parts of dresses…like the top or one or the back on one but never an entire dress…..
