Hmm I don’t have experience with having a dress made, but I have been to numerous fittings at Bridal stores.  I would say do your research on each store, or try enough to find one that you like and go with them, as they can vary drastically in terms of service.

I had a bad experience at one store where I was booked for a fitting at the same time as one other bride (this is TINY store, with one large mirror), and she had about 10 people with her.  So when I tried my dress on and she was changing, I literally had 10 random people gawking at me while my 2 Bridesmaid or Best Man were squished into the corner.  They also would not allow my Bridesmaid or Best Man to take pics of ANY dresses, while the other girls party were all taking pics of almost all of her dresses that I saw.  When my Bridesmaid or Best Man asked why she couldn’t take pics, the sales lady shrugged and didn’t anwser her (I did not find this out till after, otherwise I probably would have left right away!).  Also, they will not give you the designer or style of dress, as they do not want you price matching, because they definetly jack the prices up A LOT.  Luckily, I tried out a different store, and they were MUCH better, I was not sharing a mirror with anyone, took all the pics I wanted and they quoted me the same price as I saw on bestbridalprices.com.  I will likely be ordering from them.
