AMEN!!! I am very active and try to be healthy, and I can’t stand it when people ask if I’m not eating something because I’m on a “wedding diet.” I understand that many people are motivated to get in shape for the wedding, the pictures are going to be there forever, etc., but it seems like media and advertisements really go overboard. I’d love to see more articles about “Start your new life together healthy!” than “Look great in that dress for one day!”

a lot of women go on fad diets and kill themselves to lose weight for that one special day.  there’s so much pressue put on this day and the pictures that you’ll have forever.

my friend’s cousin did and within 2 months, she ballooned up again.  i think it’s ridiculous, have a healthy workout regime and when you do get fit and lose weight, maintain it.  don’t let yourself go and be heavier and more out of shape than when you started.

Yes that is true but unfortunately, not everyone thinks about fitness until a big event comes up like a wedding.  And even then, it doesn’t necessarily become a lifestyle.  Some areas of the country aren’t used to being as active as others.  I know that when I moved to AL from CO, people look at me crazy for working out hard.

Yes, it’s part of a bigger cultural problem, I think, that leads us to focus way too much on “wedding” and not nearly enough on “marriage.” I want to do better about fitness and exercise this summer ahead of our wedding, but it’s because I want both of us to start marriage in optimal health – especially because we’ll be looking to start a family in the near future.
