Hey there bees, I have a unique problem. I am not from a Western culture, and we don’t have the tradition of engagement rings. But, Fiance (SO I guess?) and I both grew up in the United States, and we knew we would do the whole ring thing.
So, our engagements are usually really short (everything can be planned within months)
We are actually getting married this summer. We have a venue picked out too. But, we’re not engaged. Yes, Fiance still hasn’t given me a ring.
I don’t care about the ring, I just want to be engaged. But he does and he doesn’t want to call me his Fiance until he gets the ring. What’s the hold up? His family. They hate me and they’ve hated every girl he’s dated. They want to pick out a girl for him themselves (hello, this is the 21st century!) They won’t attend our wedding.
Fiance is still holding out on the engagement hoping they will come around. I know he really loves them and he is scared of cutting them off for life, but I am getting frustrated.
People usually ask me questions, and I don’t know what to answer! The wedding’s coming up fast, it just feels so ridiculous not being able to call the man I’m going to marry my fiance!
I feel selfish, and sad that he is losing his family, but I’m tired of all this ambiguity and hate from his family and pain of seeing my Fiance stand up alone in his wedding (and fear that he might back out before the wedding. Though I know he would never do that!)
I guess this is just a rant. Thanks for listening bees!
