I really wish you luck on this. I’m half Trini and could not see myself getting married in Trinidad for some of the reasons you mentioned. I wanted to point out, though (lol) that T&T is not behind on e-mail/internet and such, but there is an “island time” mentality that thwarts the American need for efficient communication. I planned an event in Trinidad last year (not a wedding) and worked with a US-based event planner who had a lot of contacts on the island. It was wonderful. American style customer service with all the island amenities I mentioned.  Let me know if you’d like a recc!

My wedding will be in Barbados and I’ve hired TWO planners (one in the US and one on the island). The cost is more than worth the headache avoidance, IMO.

@Legendre2014:  she’s based out of Raleigh, NC. I’m way further up the coast, but we did everything remotely. Didn’t meet her for the first time until we actually got to Trinidad for the event!

The North Deck is beautiful! How accessible is that part of the island to your husband’s family? I saw you mentioned San Fernando

@Legendre2014:  you’re welcome. It was a Carnival trip, so our vendors were very specific (costume design, guest houses, body paint service(lol), etc. No florists or DJs or anything like that. But I’m sure Esha (the owner of the company I mentioned could come up with something if you chose to use her.

Lol calm down ladies…this girl take real offense yes…but in all honesty I don’t think she meant trinidad is stuck in the but our attitude to respond is very relaxed…planning a wedding is very stressful and if you’re planning one in a foreign country well multiply that stress by 10 because by the time u arrive there if things are not the way u want it it’s too late to adjust anything for your big day….I am planning my wedding here and some vendors take days or a week to respond….so I understand why the young lady had a planner for her carnival trip….darling u need a planner for your trinidad wedding and I quote do not attempt to do it on your own…that’s my honest opnion
