So my Fiance and I have decided on a weekend for our wedding. Originally we were going to wait 2 years because the proposal was such a surprise and I thought I would need longer to settle in. Due to him getting out of the military and going to school we thought it best we get married before than which means a 2014 summer wedding!!!!!
We decided on July 4th weekend next year!!! It would be on Saturday the 5th. I was a little nervous because I do not want a patriotic wedding and thought it would just be assumed that would happen because of the weekend … thoughts?
The main reason for this date is his family is from CA and I have family and friends from all over so a lot of people will be doing some significant traveling to get to our wedding. Since July 4th is on the Friday and most people will have it off we thought that would make traveling in much easier for people. They wouldn’t have to take as many vacation days and I can certainly appreciate that.
We want to have a large rehearsal dinner/pre party to the wedding on the 4th which will absolutely be 4th themed. Him being in the military and it being one of my favorite holidays we thought it was a good fit.
– Is this really easier for people who are traveling?
– Will people just assume/expect a 4th themed wedding day? and we were thinking Navy blue for colors so that will most likely make it harder to pull away from that?

@AllyP: I think it might be easier on people travelling since they will already have Friday off. As for patriotic theme, I would not expect and theme based on the date of a wedding. If they do, who cares. You do what you want.

@AllyP: I wouldn’t assume that a wedding taking place over 4th of July weekend would have a 4th of July theme. I’d just figure it was a convenient weekend. I think it seems like a reasonable plan!

Hi date twin!
I wouldn’t expect a themed wedding. What are you planning to pair the navy with?

I like patriotic weddings. The colors are bright and nice. and AMER-RI-CA!

@AllyP: I’m getting married July 4th and we are not doing a patriotic wedding. My colors are pink & silver.

@AllyP: I’ve read that July 4th is among the busiest travel days of the year, especially when it’s attached to a weekend. This could mean higher ticket rates and much heavier traffic… so I would weigh that against the benefit of most people having that Friday off already. But if you do pick that date, I definitely do not think you’re stuck with a patriotic theme if that’s not your thing–people might even find it refreshing if you go with some other theme. But never underestimate how much fun sparklers can be, especially for pictures 🙂

@aliciaspinnet: We are doing it with silver which has really taken over as we are going for more of an Art Deco theme. We have now decided to have a 4th of July themed rehursal dinner which is perfect!!!
