I bought a vintage brooch from etsy. it is almost perfect, except that the metal is not real silver. (mabye it’s chrome? can’t be sure.) there are a couple of tiny spots of rust here and there- in places too hard to reach with a brillo pad. also, some of the stones are a tad bit clouded, but I’m too afraid to bend open the prongs to get them out for cleaning (I’m worried they’ll break)
the thing is, this vintage brooch was probably cheap quality, but it is exactly the perfect thing to make my necklace out of, I want to try my best to fix it up! I don’t need to make it super bright, just a little bit nicer than it looks right now.
1. is there something I can soak this in that will get the rust out from behind the stones? I read that Coke or vinegar would work, but I don’t want to harm it!
2. is there something I can use that will prevent it from rusting more in the future? whatever that would be, it needs to be very clear so it doesn’t make the stones too dull.
