this is me.
I had my second lobe piercings and one cartilage piercing done at claires for my 15th birthday. If I could go back I would go to a real tattoo/piercing place. The lobes are fine except one briefly got messed up as I was cleaning it early on and I had to basically repierce the back part by shoving it through. Ouch. The cartilage one is messed up. It took forever to heal and it is placed wrong so it hurts with headphones/sleeping.

I was an assistant manager at Claire’s when I was 18 (Geez, almost 10 years ago!). I would consider going someplace else. What Ms Purple said is all true. I allowed one of the girls I trained to pierce my second hole as practice, but most are trained on a piece of paper. I never had any issues and I pierced MANY ears, but I would go to a reputable piercing shop that doesn’t use a gun if I wanted to get another piercing.

Please go to a reputable, licensed tattoo shop.
Autoclave sterilized, packaged, single-use needles & sterilized jewelry > reloadable piercing “gun” that (maybe) gets wiped with alcohol after each customer.

cooperlove: i was 7 when i got my 2nd hole and 9 when i got my 3rd hole. i’m pretty sure i had it done at claire’s.
my first hole at 2 was done at my father’s friend’s house who was a jeweler.
my brother got his ear pierced at claires also.
don’t worry about it.
recently my mom needed one of her ears repierced and my friend who works in a pediatrician’s office brought home the gun and did it.

Eh, I got my first holes (multiple times, I was bad at letting them close up) and second holes pierced at shops in the mall that used guns. Never been a problem. So did everyone else, including my mom, and I don’t know anyone that’s had a problem.

the worst thing i ever did was have my cartiledge pierced on the streets of israel (at a market) for 5 sheckles, the equivilent of $1 when i was 16. i didn’t keep that in too long as i wasn’t supposed to wear jewelry when i played volleyball in highschool. i kept taking it out for games and the hole closed.
i had my nose pierced at a tattoo parlor when i was 31 with the needle.
now, i would go the needle vs gun route, but i don’t think they had the needle option 25 years ago…eeks.

I one done when I was a little girl and got my second one done at a claire’s like 10 years ago. I had no issues. Anything nowadays I would go to a tattoo/piercing studio.

Got my ears done with a gun at the mall – I am allergic to Nickel so I have always had sensitivitity issues. Had nothing to do with the piercing gun. I just had two more done on my lobes and one on my cartilage. No issues with those either and I know how tough it can be to heal cartilage. I had it done 2 weeks ago and can touch/sleep on that side with no pain now.

Definitely go to a reputable and licensed tattoo/piercing shop. I wouldn’t have any sort of piercing done at Claires. I’m afraid that too many of my friends have ended up with infected ears afterwards.

Like others have said, go to a pro shop. Don’t feel silly or intimidated because it’s “just” and ear piercing. These are the people that have to fix the botched piercings done at the mall. They won’t judge you for not getting something more extreme done, they’ll respect that you’re doing it the right way.

i had my second and third holes done at claire’s and didn’t have any problems. i was 12 for my second ones and 19 for my third ones.

I had my ears pierced at Claire’s when I was 10 and never had any issues. I have no intention of adding more holes to my body, but if I have children who want piercings I would take them to a tattoo/piercing shop. I don’t think it’s “silly” to get a piercing at one just because it isn’t an unusual or uncommon one.

Please please please go to a tattoo shop to get it done! Those guns aren’t safe and the girls aren’t trained. I had 2 nasty infections…to make a long story short, it required a doctors visit after the earrings sank into my ear…I had to get them pulled out. Ugh…I still have the scars.

my stomach just flipped at that. I’m headed to a professional tattoo shop now for sure!!!
