- Wedding: May 2013
Good evening, Bees! I’ve got to admit, after visiting Weddingbee for quite a while (at least longer than I can admit and still keep some pride. ), I can proudly say that I now have a reason to go wedding-crazy! Like the majority of you out there, the man I love finally decided to make an honest gal out of me. It takes them forever sometimes, doesn’t it? I guess I’ll start out by telling all you lovely ladies a little about Fiance and myself.
Fiance and I met in highschool through some mutual friends. He was a Senior, and I was a Freshman. Well, obviously nothing was ever going to happen between us because of the age difference, right? But that didn’t stop me from looking! At seventeen, Fiance was quite a looker. Tall, dark and handsome, with sandy blond hair and eyes like green glass. In my fourteen year old eyes, he was perfect. A Greek statue. How could I have known at that time that he had a heart even more beautiful than his face? Well, the year passed, Mr. Gorgeous graduated, and that was that. I figured he’d go off and start his life somewhere, and I would focus on trying to pass Algebra (did I mention that I hate math? Yeah, I hate math.). I wasn’t heartbroken; after all, we hardly ever spoke to eachother. He was, at best, my eye candy that sat quietly on the bleachers at lunch.
Still with me? Thanks for that. I’m not very good at getting to the point.
About a year later we met up again through another mutual friend. This shouldn’t have surprised me, (we live in a small, Southern town where everyone knows everyone) but it did. There was my eye candy. Just as gorgeous, but another year older. *Sigh* It would never happen… However, that didn’t stop us from becoming good friends. Movies. Long walks. Late-night phone calls. Yup. Friends. That is, until he blew my mind by waiting until two weeks after my sixteenth birthday, (I wasn’t allowed to date until I turned sixteen) and asking my dad’s permision to date me. Go ahead and swoon, I’ll wait. Finished? I know! He’s a gem, right?! What blew my mind even more? My dad actually saying yes! My dear father likes to say that, in a town this small, Fiance is the pick of the litter. Ahhhh, thanks dad, and your compliment wrapped in an insult. Haha.
Fast forward a year and I’m moving in with Fiance on my seventeenth birthday. Fast forward two more years and we’re walking on a beach, at sunset, and this dear, beautiful man gets down on one knee and pulls out the most gorgeous ring I’ve ever seen (only after asking the permission of both my parents, of course). You can guess the rest.
And in those three years I had you fast-forward through? Well, I was busy getting to know the layers under the pretty face of the man I now call my fiance. I learned that he doesn’t have a favorite color, only favorite shades of every color, that his favorite movies are animated ones (the flavor of the week? How to Train Your Dragon.), that he loves all things educational, and that his stomach is a black hole. I learned that he’s a huge animal lover (we have four previously-stray cats to prove it). I learned that, without complaint, he will spend his days off sitting in a chair next to me, with needles in both arms, donating platelets to cancer victims (while watching Beauty and the Beast for the hundreth time); that he will take a vegetarian meal with me instead of a steak; and that he wont think twice about buying a homeless man something to eat. But does he see how wonderful he is? Nope. He’s constantly striving to better himself and, because of that fact, has me striving to better myself as well.
I’m not sure exactly how our life together is going to play out, but I’m sure it will be filled with laughs, a few tears, countless animated movies and, most importantly, more love than a million stray cats would know what to do with. Step one? Planning our wedding! And while we’re busy planning, I hope you ladies don’t mind coming along for the ride. I’m sure there will be times when your advice and guidance will be much needed and appreciated.
I apoligize for the long post. God-willing I’ll learn how to shorten them up over time. So, is anyone else out there lucky enough to be marrying their high school sweetheart? How many of you stalked wedding blogs before they had a ring on it? I know I can’t be the only one!
