I haven’t heard of this before.

The only thing I can think of is that if the Diamond was listed as IF or VVS perhaps any action to remove from setting and place into a new one could result in it getting minute flaws.

The GIA certificate is for the diamond only. You can throw that diamond into any setting and it’s still valid. It sounds like the people you’re working with are being dishonest.

Maybe she means you can’t sell the ring back if the diamond has been reset?

GIA certificate is for the diamond and is not affected by the setting.

are you sure you are getting a GIA cert?  GIA is only for the diamond.  (they HAVE to grade it out of the setting)

kekeh :  their warranty might not be valid anymore, but the GIA is on the diamond only.

The certificate will still be valid, but your upgrade policy at that store would be invalid.

Only recutting your diamond would invalidate the GIA certificate.

I bought my diamond separate from the setting – and my diamond has a GIA certificate. The certificate doesn’t have anything to do with the setting. Either she’s misinformed, or lying to you
