Hi Bees, i’m 32 weeks pregnant today and i had a growth scan yesterday and they said that she’s measuring 5lbs 6oz! The nurse checked and spoke withthe Dr. and then the Dr. came in and did his own scan and was getting the same reading on her weight and size. People DELIVER babies that are 5lbs 6oz and i still have 8 weeks to go!!!!!!!!!! According to the internet babies grow 1/2 a lb a week that’s going to put her around 9 to 9.5 lbs! They said even her HEAD is big! I have So many newborn clothes and diapers that i’m afraid she wont fit into now.
They’re doing another growth scan in 3 weeks to see if she’ll slow down or if i’ll just basically have a giant baby.
Did anyone else measure large at 32 weeks and wind up having a normal size baby????
I had TWO 3 hour glucose test (one at 18 weeks and 1 at 26 weeks and i passed them both with flying colors) so it’s not GD
The worst part is that my two cousins both had 5 lbs and 6lb babies each time. they both had 2 kids. And the family was talking about how glad they are that they’re so tiny and how much cuter they are when they’re small. Knowing my family the first thing they’re going to do is comment on my baby girls weight and I dont think i’d be able to contain any explatives that come out of my mouth if they start criticizing my rainbow miracle baby from the very minute shes born.
So has anyone measured big like that and delivered a normal sized baby???

Growth scans are estimates. It can be up to +/- an entire pound. They told me my son was huge too and he ended up being a normal size, and i’ve known tons of people who are told their babies are “huge” and they end up being very average.

Yes and my baby ended up being normal sized. I think they as you get further along the scans get more and more inaccurate. I was told with both my babies they would never pass but I did both perfectly fine no tears. I’m not saying that a c-section isn’t out of the realm of possibility I would just be aware of all of your options and choices

daniellemc : the estimates are notoriously wrong. I always “measured ahead” so much that they considered changing my due date until they remembered I did IVF so the conception date was not in question. I ended up delivering her at 37+4 at 6 pounds 10 ounces. I also had a friend who was told her kid was on the smaller side and she came out nearly 10 pounds. It’s seriously all a guess.

I had the same problem with big babies. None of the typical newborn sized clothes fit. I had one that was was 8lbs 12oz and the other was 9lbs 1oz. They were normal deliveries. Don’t worry about it. It really doesn’t matter as long as they are healthy. You may have some tall genes somewhere in the family, who knows?
Normal birthweights for 1st world countries are between 5.5lbs and approx 9.9lbs with the average at 7.7lbs. She will fall in that range somewhere.

I was born 9lbs 4oz (only 18in too!) and I should have you know that I have since thinned out and you would never have guessed that I was nicknamed ‘Michelin Man’ because of all of my rolls as a baby. 🙂

They thought my baby was going to be too small based on growth scans. She was a healthy 7lbs 4oz!
They can only guess at size but it’s not always accurate.

Those estimates can be way off. I wouldn’t worry about it.
They told me I’d have like a 6 lb baby and dd was 7.5 lbs.
She was super crazy chunky as a baby too lol. I never had anyone say anything but how cute she was with her chubby thighs and cheeks.

Yeah those estimates are so so bad. LO measured small my whole pregnancy (to the point where I had to get a few extra growth scans), but he ended up at 7.25 (and was 10 days early too).

They told me my son was eight pounds when I had a couple weeks to go. He was born at 5lb 12oz. Those scans and measurements are useless IMO. I wouldn’t worry about this or what people think of the weight of your baby. Health is what matters….if someone says bigger babies aren’t cute or that smaller is better they are cracked. I would’ve dreamed for a good weight for my son

Those size scans aren’t that accurate. My sister gave birth this week with a 7 pound 8 baby. The week prior they said she would be over 8 pounds.

I was told at my 35 week scan that he was about 7 lbs and would be about 8.5 at birth.. and he was exaxctly 8.5. His head circumfence was also about 95th %tile. I never bothered with NB sized clothing. I just started with a few 3 month piece which he was swimming in for a few weeks. He fit into them pretty well by 3 or 4 weeks and grew out of those by 6 weeks. He’s 8 weeks now and about 14 lbs and fits well into 6month clothing. (Carters and Little Me brands, which I do think runs small.)
