I wouldn’t mind cute clothes but only if it is the right size for the right season.  It’s harder to do, but hey as long as you include a gift receipt they could exchange it.

Anything will be appreciated, but parents are most in need of things like gift cards, diapers and wipes. Do they have a baby registry? Also clothes are always good, just get 12 months +.

Relat:  I’d go with clothes, but get ones for 12-18 months. I just did this for a friend and she really appreciated it since everyone else kept getting her 3-6 month and 6-9 month clothes that the litle on is quickly outgrowing!

Relat:  you could always ask…say “I’d love to get you something you can really use. Are there any clothing sizes you need? Or if you’d rather I can get some of your favorite diapers.” toss in a cute small toy or book as a surprise and there Ya go!

A book series I’m getting is the San Diego Zoo Animal Library board book series of baby animals There are 12 I think. Here’s one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0824965795/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?qid=1427305429&sr=8-7&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=san+diego+zoo+animal+library&dpPl=1&dpID=51N8JF5SDSL&ref=plSrch

As a mom of a baby myself, I would give (and love to receive) a special book, inscribed by you to the child. It’s small, is a keepsake but is something that will actually be used, and you won’t run into any problems with sizing, etc.

I personally would NOT give diapers. If I were going that route, I’d just give an amazon gift card or something & let them buy their own diapers if that’s what they want.

HeyJude72:  They are such cute books!  Pout Pout Fish I think is my DD’s current favorite.  There are so many books on my Amazon wish list I want that I know are also good, but I don’t have much room left on her bookshelves!

I love to give books (in fact, it’s my go-to gift for kids of all ages.)

I usually give my childhood favorites.   The first one I give I usually write a little note in the cover (and it’s always Thomas’ snowsuit).  My nephew lives in Ireland and he’s 3.  So each gift giving occasion I give him some new Munsch books. 🙂  And if I can I like to try to find a book with the child’s name in it.

I’d never thought of board books.  I just always start a regular library (I figure everyone reads to their kids at some point). But nooks the baby could actually flip through would be a great addition!

sostobe:  building our baby’s library and Im including some of both, knowing there’s a high chance of the regular books getting mauled by baby at some point in baby/toddlerhood! I found some big beautiful pictrue books and lots of board books! I’ll be putting some books of our registry, too!

I wouldn’t get clothes, but a 6 month old is definitely still drooling! Those teething drools last for a loooong time. I would get a gift card – it sounds lazy, but it will be appreciated, that way mama will be able to get something she actually needs for baby. The 6 month old stage is hard to shop for – some like toys and some, like my son, can’t sit still and prefer to bang on pots and pans and eat paper instead of toys/books.
