Most baby shower gifts are for the baby. Did the mom set up a registry? A lot of Mom’s will, so you have an idea of what they like/want, and what type of diapers they use (always useful!).

If she registered for gifts, that might clear up a little confusion ๐Ÿ™‚

I like to get something practical for the baby, and also a little something for mom to pamper herself.  The last baby shower I went to I took a diaper cake (looks like a three tiered cake made of baby blankets, washclothes, onesies, and rattles etc…) and a “spa kit” for mom that had bath salts, aromatherapy candles, and lavendar lotion.

Either or both. I received mostly baby gifts, but my college roommate gave me satin PJs and lotions. You could do either way.

@zippylef:  satin pajamas? that’s awesome!! I bought myself some pajamas at Victoria’s Secret for the hospital. I went a size up and got something that buttoned down the front so I could nurse, and it was THE BEST when I was there. After all the gore, lol, I felt so good to wear something pretty and new. That’s a great idea for a gift.

You could definitely buy her something for herself but the mostly helpful thing you could do is buy baby supplies because they need them, that’s less money she has to spend on the necessities. If you have any money left over I’m sure she’d love some slippers or even bath products and and IOU for babysitting so she can relax and use them ๐Ÿ™‚

One of the most unique gifts that my friend gave to another friend at a baby shower was an “Introduction to Swimming” lessons for the baby once they were 6 months old.  The mom was thrilled, and it was a very useful and practical gift.  I was a bit jealous becuase all of my gifts always seem to be boring compared to others!

@NearlyMrsMac:  I just received a gift for a pregnancy massage. Almost everyone will get gifts for the baby and it was so nice to get a little something for me ๐Ÿ™‚

I never stick to registry, even though it annoys me when others don’t lol. However, I get the same thing for everyone, and it’s usually expected now from our friends and really appreciated. I get a gift certificate for baby/family portraits.
