I’m invited to a Bachelorette party for a close cousin in a few weeks. It’s going to be a fairly typical bar-crawl/karaoke/city party, with most of the guests in attendance staying at a hotel for the night. I’m passing on the hotel, but only because my sister lives in the city, and I can crash at her apartment (she will be going to the party as well). My question is – are gifts expected? I’m not a part of the bridal party, but this is someone that I am fairly close to. I’ve never been to this sort of traditional Bachelorette party before, so I want to do the right thing! If I should bring a gift, what should it be – lingerie, wine, something else?

@greenmint: I’ve only ever been to one party like this before, but the hostess sent out an email beforehand with the bride’s lingerie sizes. Everyone brought lingerie or other things of that nature for her.

I wasn’t expecting gifts ay my bachelorette party but I did get some lingerie and other gifts of that nature (think novelty gifts) as well as some home spa kits and lotion. I think it is fun to bring something!

I always bring a gift to a bachelorette party. I typically gift panties or a Victoria’s Secret gift card, lotion, scented candles and depending how well I know the bride, a few gag gifts or novelty items.
The last bachelorette party I attended, NOBODY else brought gifts and it was strange to me. It was a younger bride so maybe people are getting away from gifts at these parties.

Thanks for sharing your opinions/experiences, ladies! I love the bride dearly, and definitely want to make this an awesome experience for her. I think I’ll just stick to the bath/spa stuff, and perhaps a novelty gift, since the Maid/Matron of Honor didn’t say anything about her size (and I wouldn’t want to guess wrongly!).The only other Bachelorette parties I’ve been to have been really casual dinners, or one where we ate pizza and played laser tag…..novelty gifts didn’t seem appropriate in those contexts! 🙂
