My Future Mother-In-Law is hosting a 200 person engagement party for my fiance and I in Chicago. She has been incredibly supportive throughout all of the planning and understanding of my unique and slightly crazy family — who had an explosive confrontation with her at their first meeting. I want to give her something thoughtful as a hostest gift, but would love it to be extra nice because of all she has done for us. Oh, and she is going to officiate our wedding … which is oh so exciting!!

- Wedding: August 2007 - An historic estate
GC for spa day?
nice bottle of wine or champagne + expensive chocolate?
GCs for a night at a nice hotel and dinner for her and Future Father-In-Law (assuming he’s in the picture, but it could be for her and a significant other/best friend/you guys, if she doesn’t get to spend much time with you/etc.).
it’s hard to give suggestions since we don’t know anything about her.
if you want it to be "thoughtful," put some thought into it. consider her hobbies, things she enjoys but won’t indulge in for herself, and what you know she would enjoy.

A lump of coal! Wait – that’s my Future Mother-In-Law.
Would she like a massage or facial? A gift certificate for that would be nice. How much are you thinking on spending? I would love a nice crystal bowl from Tiffany or Waterford if it’s in the budget. Or a pearl bracelet (a nice one)?
What does she like and how is she as a person? Things I, my mother, and Future Mother-In-Law would like are very different.

How about a gift basket you personally make? When I met my future in laws for the first time I took a gift basket filled with goodies from World Market. You could include a picture of you and Future Mother-In-Law, wine/champagne/cider, sweet treats, jewelry, gift card to her favorite store, etc.
I think whatever you do it should be personalized. Good luck!
