Wow – very pretty jewwlry on the blog – some great ideas for gifts.

To answer your question, yes I think it’s common ettiquete to have a gift for the parents of the bride and groom.  I also think it depends on your relationship with your parents as to what you give them.  I know common gifts are pictures and picture frames, or picture books containing pictures of when you were little till “grown-up”, as well as jewelry.  My mother and Future Mother-In-Law have very different tastes, so I won’t be getting them the same thing, but it will probably be jewelry.
