Is it fairly common for the bride and groom to exchange a gift with one another on their wedding day? All of my friends have given their groom a gift…nice watch, designer sunglasses, golf club. Just wondering what ideas are out there in the hive for groom gifts from his bride?

@Toronto2014: It depends… Over here in Europe, there is a gift exchange taking place by bride and groom. It is called “Morgengabe” in German which roughly translates to “Morning gift”. The gifts are exchanged at the morning of the wedding. I actually really like that tradition which originally used to be some sort of dowry payment to the bride by the groom.
I think as a gift for a groom I would go with something he would keep on using. Maybe an engraved flask, a nice watch, a workcase with embossed leather, a nice engraved lighter…

@Toronto2014: I’ve just bought my fiance a nice Parker pen. The last one he had, he lost. It was a silvery chrome colour; the one I’ve just bought is gold… so basically an upgrade! He has a thing for nice pens, and I thought it would be good for us to use when we sign our marriage certificate during the ceremony π

@Toronto2014: Oh and I will probably wrap the box in the underwear I’m also giving him (with “Groom” on the back…!) Something silly π

@Toronto2014: I’m giving him a book of boudoir photos I had taken. I’m going to have it given to him by one of my girls shortly before our first look. I had it done months ago and I’ve been dying to give it to him, it’s one of the things I’m most excited about. For all the buildup I’ve felt about it I’m going to pretty much cry if it doesn’t rock his world.

@ksus07: Great idea! Will you send it to him via your girls the morning of your wedding or give it to him later in the day?
@jennmariee: I’m sure he’ll love it! What guy wouldn’t love a book of pics of his new wife looking sexY!

@Toronto2014: I think I’ll get his mum to deliver it to him in the morning, maybe after she’s seen me getting ready π

We did gifts to each other. I got him a set of cufflinks with skiers on them (he loves skiing) and he gave me a Leatherman multi-tool, which was the most amazing gift ever!
He stayed at our house the night before the wedding so I left it for him to open in the morning, and I think he gave my gift to my sister to give to me when we were getting ready at the hotel.

We are going to exchange gifts over brunch (we don’t get married until 1500). I will likely get him a watch, he is getting me a locket or another necklace (I think). I think it’s a nice gesture π If you can afford to, and you want to, I say go for it.
Suggestions:
- pocket watch (vintage?)
- wrist watch (vintage?)
- cufflinks
- tie slide
- posh tie

We didnt have the budget to exchange gifts, so instead I wrote him a letter that I gave to him on the wedding day. Which for me was so much better since my letter made him so emotional and made that day even more special for the both of us π
I did think about gift ideas though, it was going to be a watch or some nice cuff links. But we decided prior to the wedding that we not exchange gifts since we were at the top of our budget for the wedding and honeymoon combined.

We didn’t have the budget for extravagant gifts so we gave each other a modest budget. I got him cufflinks with his initials on them inside an engraved box with a message I wrote for him.
