I got Darling Husband a PS3. He wanted a new gaming system so I gave him the option of a PS3, XBox or Wii. I was glad he chose the PS3, since it has the blu ray player.

I gave my Fiance a new guitar for Christmas/our engagement. It was a great, meaningful gift for him that he’ll have forever!

@erinmarie0685: I don’t necessarily think it’s a trend but I wanted to do it. I don’t think it is fair for the guy to have to shell out all money for the ring so I wanted to get something for him to show my appreciation.

@SuperKate:  That was my logic. I didn’t want to get him a ring because I knew he wouldn’t wear it (and it also reminded me of Boy Meets World). So, I got him something that was more up his interest level.

I knew the engagement was coming so I bought him a watch that doubled as an anniversary gift. I swore he was going to propose on our anniversary so I gave it to him then, I was wrong. LOL. But 6 months later after he FINALLY proposed I confessed the real reason he got such a nice gift for our anniversary.

In our culture you used to give each other watches instead of rings when you got engaged.

I’m a grad student so I couldn’t afford to get him something nearly as expensive as my ring, but I got him a 50″ plasma-screen TV when we got engaged. I like the idea of a nice watch (or other piece of jewelery for him to wear everyday) but I had already gotten him a really nice watch for our 4 year (maybe 5 year??) anniversary.

I have definitely been trying to figure this out myself!! My Fi proposed on St. Patty’s day, I know he was hoping for a gift after shelling out a couple of thousand on me, and I did end up buying him an “engagement bow tie” that day that he adores! I was originally going to get him this guitar chair he has been wanting (he’s a classical guitarist) but since that won’t last forever I want to get him a watch I think… at least sometime before the wedding!! Until then he’s getting golf wedges for our anniversary… I feel like I’ll never quite be able to equal it!

I bought him a DeWalt dual bevel compound sliding mitre saw as an extra-special birthday gift right after we got engaged, and wrote him a small lette explaining that this was my engagenent gift to him.

I wrapped te note and a peice of the distinctive DeWalt box it in my velvet ring box, and presented it to him.

@Ivorybuttons:  that sounds awesome.

I didn’t get him anything but I did give him a placer ring to ward off the cougars. I just found this awesome bbq set made by park tool which I’m not sure might be an engagement anniversary gift right before the wedding. We are having a bbq the day before the wedding so he can show off the toys then.

@Ivorybuttons:  ohhhh… can I have one too??!   Jealous.  My spouse says I can’t have one because we live in a condo and I don’t use my tools enough… details I say.

I got mine a watch (ahem, I was informed that’s quasi tradition).  A watch selected by both of us.
