I have a Kindle and absolutely love mine. Plus the customer service with Kindles is excellent. I’m biased but I prefer the Kindle. I understand the appeal of the Color Nook but it’s way more expensive and honestly color means jack squat to me. Regular books don’t have color unless there pictures. I get that people who read slot of magazines and blogs might like it.

Well, I LOVE my kindle. But it kind of depends on what kind of books he reads. Kindles can use pdfs and amazon books only. Nooks are open source so he can get books from lots of sites online that have them free. A lot of sci-fi, fantsy and stuff by not well known authors is published online anf free which is great for the nook. Amazon has all the books the average public reads.

Places like project guttenberg have free books. If he just wants  a way to read books, the Kindle is great. The nook can do some other stuff too. My sis and BIL have nooks and they love them.

Do either of them have a backlight?? I know when my fiance got his nook he had to get a light to ATTACH to it. If the kindle is lit I would go for that one…

@MickyLovesMinnie: The point is that they DON’T glow. It makes it much easier to read in day light, not hard on the eyes like a computer screen. Kindles and the non-color Nook look like books. I have tried to turn pages in my kindle becuase it looks like a real paper page. Though I asusme the color nook is back-lit but that to me, if one wants it as just an e-reader, not to use the other apps parts of the nook color, then the back-lighting would be a negative to me.

@MickyLovesMinnie:

I have never needed a backlight for my kindle. I actually see better with it then regular books. I can read just fine at night in bed with a dim light on either next to me so not to disturb Darling Husband or a light on in our connected bathroom.

@cubaneli:

Nope! And it’s a soft small lamp that he says nevers bothers him. I borrowed a light from a friend for the kindle and for me, it hurt my eyes more and he noticed it too. There’s something about the ink on the kindle that just works. Love it!

I just like the idea of having it lit for say a car or airplane ride.

I don’t know too much about either, but I just want to add that my Fiance has a Kindle, and he absolutely loves it! He uses it all the time!
