I am planning on ordering a peice of art for my SO as a christmas present/engagement present. He has been eyeing up a certain photo for a while, but its been a couple years since I have seen it. Long story short, I forget what photo he liked, but I have narrowed it down to two options. I have asked friends and family which photo they like better, and they are 50/50 between the two. I want to get the one he would like as it is quite expensive and would be hanging in our house forever.
Do you guys have any suggestions of sneaky ways to trick him into picking the one he likes, without revealing the present? Or should I just decide myself?
(Also, it is a fly fishing photo, and I don’t like fly fishing so he would think something was up if I asked him flat out).
Help me creative bees!

Does he have any friends who are also into fly fishing? Perhaps you could have one of his friends bring it up as though they were buying it for themselves? Though it depends on your SO’s relationship with his friends.
I’m afraid that’s all I’ve got for now. Good luck!

I was in a similar situation once – I pinned both images, then one night when I was just, you know, casually on Pinterest, I leaned over and said, “huh, doesn’t this look like that painting you were obsessed with once? Weird that it’s in home decor on Pinterest, I hated that thing” (or whatever I said to make it sound nonchalent) and he said no, XYZ detail was different. I then pretended to google it (“oh yeah, wasn’t it this it?”). Voila, confirmation that was the right image and he suspected nothing.

Does he use pinterest? Maybe you could talk him through how to use it over the phone, and suggest he pin that silly picture he loved to a board called “fly fishing” and then make another couple boards to share…like “gifts I want” “Dream vacation.” Play up the gifts board and vacation boards as ways to get ideas for future plans and the “fly fishing” one as just an example. Haha…I tried!!
