Calling all UK bees as well as any bees with experience with this…
One of my good friends is getting married in London this month. She moved there a few years ago, and while I have visited her before (live in the US), I won’t be able to go to her wedding unfortunately.
However, I would like to do something nice, but feel myself very limited. I can’t buy gift cards here as they will not be valid over there. Obviously US checks won’t work so that’s out. I don’t want to mail cold hard cash for obvious reasons. So yeah… what can I do? I wish there was some universally accepted gift card or something. They aren’t registered anywhere so I can’t just get a US equivalent of what they want and ship it. Does anyone have any ideas? I mean, worst case scenario – DH and I will take them to dinner next time we see them, but I would like to actually send something more than a card if possible.

can’t you get her a uk gift (card) that you pay for online with your credit card? or book tickets to a west end show for them… you could just chose about anything (just for example) from amazon.co.uk – or some other uk based company – and have it shipped to their house as a gift, can’t you?

What about a gift card? Like amazon? Ones that you can get sent to their email and that would work in that area

You can do a check. I had an aunt in the US send me a check here in the UK. NatWest processed it – it just took something like 28 days and a very small transaction fee (a few pounds).
Also, if you know of any food or shops she misses in the US, you could always send her things from there. I had a cousin ship me a bunch of weird Oreo packages, lots of Saltines, and cheap tshirts from Target because I can’t them here. It made my day. May not be super wedding-ish, but a little something from home + check could be perfect.

I will have to play around with the Amazon site. I remember when I tried to buy something on the UK Amazon, it wouldn’t let me and redirected me to the US site.
The check and nostalgic US item idea sounds great! I’ll look into that.

i can order from amazon.co.uk from abroad without any problems. but there should be plenty of other sites as well, depending on what you’re wanting to gift you could chose a site like John Lewis, Harrod’s, WH Smith, Selfridge’s, Marks & Spencer… if you want to gift money, you could also look into a transaction made via Western Union (not sure how much their fees are though)

You have to set up a separate Amazon.co.uk account in order to order from them. If you log in with your amazon.com info, it will redirect you to your .com account.
