I think it’s a nice gesture and very generous of you.

I don’t think I would read into it if someone did that for me.  I might have a, ‘omg, _____ just gave a us gift but we didn’t invite them to the wedidng’ moment but I think as long as you maybe state that you know it’s a close family affair but you really wanted to get them a gift, etc.

If you give the gift in person on his last day of work before the wedding, you can probably do so tactfully and it will be clear that you are not fishing for an invitation.  If someone were to hand me a gift before I took of for my wedding and simply said, “congratulations, I wanted to get you a little something to celebrate your marriage” I wouldn’t think it was odd/rude at all! Mostly, I would just be floored by the generosity. Sounds like you are a good friend!

My insurance agent wasn’t invited to our wedding and neither was the President of a church group (we belong to the church but not the group he’s over) and they both got us gifts from our registry. It was really nice and unexpected!

I think that’s a really sweet gesture. You should definitely go with it. 🙂

I think that is really thoughtful. I would definitely wait until pretty close before their wedding to give it though or even when he returns from the honeymoon so that your intentions are clear. We received a gift from an uninvited and were super appreciative.
