Make sure that you keep it in the room with you and away from the door.  That way people will have an eye on it without having to assign someone to sit there and watch it.  We didn’t have a problem because we were the only wedding going on and other people were only inside the dining room far away from us.

We had our gift table inside during the reception and then when it came time for dinner, the staff moved it inside the dinner reception area for us.  That way no one could walk by and take stuff as they mightve been able to if it was left in the cocktail area.

Id also suggest at least with the gift card box to designate someone to put it in their car or a locked room for the evening after your guests have all arrived.

Wow – maybe it’s because we are in a private venue and it will just be us and my wedding guests, but I am not worried about this at all!  I can’t imagine anyone taking anything from our wedding….

Ours will be on the opposite side of the hall from the door & will be in plain view of everyone!

We are the only wedding at our venue also, but we will have the ushers by the gift table handing out programs prior to the ceremony. then right before the ceremony they will empty the card box (leaving the box on the table) and we will place the cards in our bridal suite and lock the door and have our ceremony.

I agree with MissAsB.  We set up our table on the interior of the room, away from the doors.  We were in a public building (with another wedding right down the hall) so we wanted to do that as a precaution.

We’re setting up the gift table away from the door too and will probably have my brother run the card box up to the hotel room once dancing starts (same building). We’re in a public building on a college campus, so pretty much anything could happen.

There was an issue with this at my FI’s cousin’s wedding last summer. Luckily, we probably will only get cards since we’re only doing a honeymoon registry, but I’m still a little anxious about the card box. I like the idea of having someone put it in their car as soon as dinner starts.

I was in charge of doing this for a relatives wedding. We catalogued the gift cards as people walked in (many of them had cash in them) During the ceremony we put the box in the back room and during the reception it was put away in the bridal suite.

In hindsight, I probably should have put the box under my chair during the ceremony because I guess someone could have taken it during the ceremony.
