I’ll be spending $100-150 on gifts picked out for each bridesmaid (they have happily done A LOT for the wedding). Each lady is getting a handwritten letter along with some combination she’d like out of: a massage, non-wedding jewelry, non-wedding clutch, gift card to favorite hobby store (so crafts store, home improvement store, etc. depending on girl), non-wedding clothing item.
Which of these gifts did you love receiving as a bridesmaid or would you like to receive as presents?
There are no hair/makeup costs and dress cost is pretty low or free. I’m already giving them a bit of jewelry, pashminas, and flats for the day of, but not counting those as gifts. (also turns out my ladies don’t really need/want anything monogrammed, survival kits, alcohol/flasks, robes, or totes.) it’s a destination wedding, so onlly things they could easily fit in suitcase.

@Shkragoldfish: I like the idea of one “experience” like the massage and one “tangible” like jewelry or clutch

A gift card to their favourite store or restaurant (not hobby). So for a Bridesmaid or Best Man that likes to read a gift card to a book store, for a Bridesmaid or Best Man that likes to cook a gift card to William Sanoma or the like, for a Bridesmaid or Best Man that likes getting their nails done a gift card to the salon where they get them done etc etc.

@Shkragoldfish: You are a nice bride! I love the personal note thrown into it. I’d like to get my bridesmaids a nice, non-wedding piece of jewelry to remember the day by. I figure with a thing like a massage, it’s nice for an afternoon. But I’d love it if we were all together in 10 years saying “hey! this bracelet was from Ducky’s wedding! That was a really special night!”

I’m planning to get my maids a set of nice pajamas each (they can wear them getting ready if they want, or not… Up to them). Everyone wears pjs (mostly), and I can’t count howany times I’ve gone away and forgotten to pack some, so it would be especially handy for a destination wedding.

with the way votes are looking, it seems like best options might be massage & jewelry or only nicer jewelry (depending on who likes massages or doesn’t) . . .
ohh thank you. my bridesmaids are all really really nice, so it’s the least I can do. & yes, I won’t eliminate a tangible gift for a massage-type thing- it’d be both. the ladies who really value massages more would get a slightly less expensive piece of jewelry/clutch or whatever compared to the ladies who don’t like massages.
maybe I’ll do something like @gingerkitten
suggested – eh, but might be too hard to come up w/ gift “experiences” for the ladies who don’t like massages or have hobbies/interests that are easy to get gift certificates for (in part b/c they live somewhere else in the country or the world). seems easiest to maybe stick to what each bridesmaid would like most & not worry about themes or groupings of types of presents.
I don’t wear pjs and not sure any of my bridesmaids do, so I’m doing my best to stick to things I know the different individuals like and would want as bday or Christmas presents.
it would be some of their favorite hobby stores though (and only for some bridesmaids)- for example reading (bookstore), knitting (yarn store), painting (canvas/paint etc. store), fine paper crafts (stationery/paper store)- all hobbies (and oddly almost all the same bridesmaid). Can’t really do the restaurant or salon idea because almost none of us live in the same area & for the ones that do live in my area, they aren’t the ones who have a favorite restaurant/salon. They all tend to be low maintenance or if they do go to salons, it’s really more the type of local spot that doesn’t have gift certificates.

I consider a gift card to a hobby store an experience gift, if that helps 🙂

I’m one of those people that picks out my own clothes and jewelry because I’m very picky. Even if you think you know what I’d pick, just don’t. Because if I don’t love it, I won’t wear it. I’m not sure how your maids are but if they are like me, avoid buying things for them to wear outside of the wedding. A massage would be nice but I would be plenty happy with your “non gift” gifts! I love pashminas 🙂

+1000. I would love a massage gift certificate! 🙂

A gift card to a store of eatery that I frequent.. not so much a hobby store. The only reason I’ve even gone to a hobby store recently was for the wedding.

yup, only one bridesmaid is particular like this. I know she’s particular w/jewelry in a way that I’m not sure what her style is (or if she just doesn’t like it) and same with clothes. Unfortunately, I’m also not sure what experience she’d like so I have to do some thinking for her really (maybe a lil cyberstalking?). I need to figure out if she likes massages (about 2-3 of the ladies don’t). Won’t buy ppl something if I’m not sure they’ll like it. glad the “non-gifts” might help out in this situation.
yes, I only said stores of the ladies’ hobbies if they actually enjoy some specific hobby- it’s things that some of them love doing and shopping for (it’s like their version of shoes, chocolate, jewelry). I don’t mean michael’s or hobby lobby- I meant the bookstores for a big book nerd always trying to limit what she buys but wanting more, or enough money at expensive yarn store to buy yarn a gf been’s really wanting, etc. These are things that a couple of the girls would really like as presents. I’m only talking about the places these ladies frequent & want more & more from for fun. For the other girls, I’d do other gifts that aren’t tied into a hobby if they don’t have one.

I think your gifts sound great then!

@Shkragoldfish: I like the personalized touch. I’d probably pick the massage, jewellery and/or the gift card to my favourite sports store.

@Shkragoldfish: I voted for the massage and hobby store gift card.
You sound like you’re a lovely person and your BMs sound lovely too. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!
