I’m sure this varies between states but, I have no clue what the difference is. I have my mom’s old car and I live in a different county than her (Texas). Makes it really difficult when I have to get an inspection or registration so I have no clue where to start as far as getting the title signed over to me.
Any other bees been in this situation or know of any good resources? The state website seems to be a little thin on providing much information In My Humble Opinion.

I live in PA but here you still have to transfer the title even if it’s a gift. You do it the same way as buying, go to a AAA or another place that does titles. You need both people, both drivers license and your insurance. you just pay less because it’s a gift and don’t have to pay tax on it.

We gifted a car to someone, and in VA, both parties went to the DMV and did a title transfer. Usually you do it in the DMV for the county/area in which the car is currently registered.
