- Wedding: September 2012
What You Need:
-Piece(s) of wood from Michaels
-Stain from Michaels
-Lacquer from Michaels(I used the spray kind)
-Black tipped foam brush
-Bottle opener (ordered from ebay, came with 2 screws)
-Cap Catcher (ordered from ebay, came with 2 screws)
-Black permanent marker
-Something to hang it with
First I purchased my desired pieces of wood from Michaels. I decided to use the mid sized rectangle pieces that had bark on the sides, but Michaels has a lot of other choices if you don’t like the bark look.
I stained them using the black foam brush and let them dry. Then I sprayed them with the lacquer so they would look “finished/shiny”. It took a couple of coats.
After that I attached the bottle opener at the top and the cap catcher at the bottom. ***Note if you use a hard catcher like I did you need to give enough room for the bottle to be pushed down without hitting or cracking the catcher. If you use a soft catcher this won’t be a problem.
I searched and was able to find bottle openers that “fit” each of our groomsmen on ebay, my favorite is the gargoyle head and the John Deere one.
I then wrote their names on the wood between the opener and the catcher. I also wrote a little thank you note on the back along with our wedding date.
Final step is to attach the “hangy thing” to the back of them so they can be hung up.
Here are all of them:
It was pretty easy and fun to do. I figure I spent approx $15 on each (if that). I used Michaels 40% and 50% off coupons. It took a few weeks to compile everything but once I had it all it only took me one night to finish them. Most of the time was for the drying of the stain and lacquer.
Any questions? You can do it ladies!! 🙂
