From what I’ve read on hive- you always send thankyou cards. And traditionally you are suppose to send flowers to their house the day after or a day or two before. But not at the shower because they have too much other stuff to coordinate and the flowers would be another thing for them to manage to pack and bring home.

For me this has been the usual, I don’t think I’ve been to a bridal shower where the bride didn’t give a gift to the hosts.

I gave a bottle of wine to mine.

I hadn’t heard of it before and then the day I was flying to Florida for a Shower my mom’s friends were throwing me I get a call. My mom asked “What are you bringing for the hostesses?” I was like “WHATT!” I didn’t know what to do but I ended up going to a local farmers market and getting Whoopie Pies (a Pennsylvania treat) and wrapping them up cute and iving them to the hostesses. They were very appreciative that I thought of them.

I got my aunt a diamond candle for mine. Hostesses put so much time and effort it’s nice to appear gracious. One friend did not give hostesses gifts and I remember the hostess felt a little slighted. She got a facebook thank you, but I think she was expecting the bride to spend at least 5 minutes to pen a sincere thank you note. A little thought goes a long way!

@7monthbride:  You should always bring a gift for the host of any party you are invited to, typically a bottle of wine or a dish to serve. I think when the party is in your honour it’s even more important you bring something for the host.

It is a nice gesture, as they are hosting a party in your honor.  I gave my mom and Future Mother-In-Law each a potted sunflower plant.

I’ve thrown A LOT of showers for my friends and they always give a gift in return.  Usually it’s nice jewelry or a home decor item.

I gave monogrammed spa robes to the three women who hosted my shower.

@Irishb: I LOVE that! Philosophy has such cute stuff and raspberry sorbet?! Yum! That is right about what I was thinking of spending, too. Thank you!
