I know there are a million posts about this, but…
I’m at a loss over what to get our parents! They have done SO much for the wedding (my in-laws are hosting the 160 person reception in their backyard, and my parents have been saving up for a year and a half to help pay – they are not very well off but really wanted to contribute.) My mom is hard to please with gifts – I want to find something sentimental/heartfelt/thoughtful, but that doesn’t break the bank.
Any stellar ideas out there?

I don’t have any wonderful ideas either but I will definitely be watching this thread because I don’t know what to get them either. I thought about getting them personalized hankies from etsy as a keepsake plus the photo album we are getting from our photographer for them but it turns out that is what my sister got them on her wedding day.

We’re planting a tree in my parents backyard. We’re having the wedding there so it’ll be a nice memento. Plus it’ll not be too expensive and should last quite a while!

I asked my parents what I should get them and they got mad I even wanted to get them anything! They said it isn’t my place to be buying them gifts when they get to attend the party. Stinkers.
So for Christmas I am getting them a super nice Photobook with our wedding pictures in it. I’m either going with Blurb or Mpix. At Snapfish you can “pre-order” a photobook if you want to give them something the day of. Then they could even pick out which pictures they want.

So we are getting them the albums our photog makes. They are super cute, they look like actual books! It should be a nice surprise!

I think photo albums will be something they will treasure for a long time! We are planning on getting them for both our parents.

We are getting our parents something to help them treat themselves. Future Mother-In-Law is getting gift cert. to their favorite hotel in Santa Fe, Future Father-In-Law is getting gift to a hot springs spa. My mom/stepdad: No idea! – something along the same line though.. They love to travel so trying to come up with something/somewhere they’d like to go. – Hotel gift cert. to Hilton Head or something.

I have the same issue. We thought of purchasing trees too but the groom’s family lives in a condo. So they are not allowed to plant anything. What should we get?

We got our parents giftcards for them to go to a nice dinner out.

I have gotten my mom and Future Mother-In-Law a set of pearls with a matching bracelet and earrings. They can wear them to the wedding too, of course.

Hi Ladies – I love the tree / plant idea – our wedding isn’t at either his parent’s house or mine – but that is a really cute idea. Also, my mom and I had a very long dress hunt – seriously no lie – I tried on probably 100 dresses – till I found the ‘one’ in another bridal store – I found my dream dress in brides – the magazine. I thought it was def out of my price range – it looks like a dress that would be on say yes to the dress – the ad reads – endlessly glamorous – highly dramatic – all for a stunning price! and I was also stunned who carried it! It is so simple, classy, spunky, Audrey Hepburn Look – simple with a little kick to it. Obviously, I could go on and on about it… but back to the main reason I am posting this book report is – I was on a mission to find that perfect dress without spending 1,000’s of dollars – I really didn’t care who made the dress – I was after the look and I found it. So for my mother – I am going to put a book together using snapfish or one of those sites – my 1st photo book I have ever done – so it might take a long time – but my plan is to put all the pictures of the dresses and places that allowed pictures to be taken. Most of them I wish my face wasn’t in the picture because boy do I have some bad expressions. This will be very funny and we will always remember our times together – mother and daughter finding the perfect dress – if you know me – you could browse the pictures and just know which one has kris written all over it. We went dress shopping 8 Saturdays – all day – they were long, confusing, and tiring but it was all worth it. (we / I went to 42 bridal shops) -some shops I went by myself because I travel in a large area with my job. So the book will be fun and funny. I would say 80% of them let us take pictures too…. 🙂 I have my work cut out for me. This place had a ‘no picture rule’ but said they would allow my mom and best friend to take a picture… this might be the cover… maybe not – maybe the outside of the building will be – showboat… they were very very nice here though I will say – didn’t have what I was looking for though
I also like victoriar’s idea – after the wedding we will put professional albums together for both of our parents.

We are doing duplicate albums that our photographer makes (they look just like our album, but are a little bit smaller). We are also getting silver frames with a place for 2 8X10 pictures. In one, we are putting a picture of me and my fi with our wedding date engraved below and in the other, a picture of them on their wedding day with their wedding date engraved below. I also LOVE the tree idea.

My parents were also surprised that we’ll be getting them gifts. I thought it would be nices for the gifts to be applicable for the wedding. For my mom, I purchased a handkerchief from etsy that reads “today a bride, tomorrow a wife, always your daughter, a best friend for life” with her name and the wedding date. For my dad, I got him cufflinks with DAD monogrammed on them. I also might get them a gift card to go out to dinner together, since they paid for about 80% of the wedding.

Oooh sgarrison I like the idea of the Dad cufflinks.
We’re thinking about getting them converters – so that they can make all their old home videos into DVD’s.
Edit: We’re doing the photo books too. They get to choose which pics from the proofs they want.
