I know, me too! Part of me wonders if it’s necessary! Our two sets of parents are basically paying for the entire wedding, and I have NO idea how to ever pay that back! :-/

A nice family picture? A gift certificate to a nice restaurant? If you want to spend a lot of money, then a nice vacation??

I’m making my mom a scrapbook from pregnancy to present with a few pages to put wedding memories on.  It’s chronological from when I was bump in her tummy throughout the years with appropriately themed little decorations.  It’s going to take months to put together but I think she’ll really love it.

Then for my stepfather since we’re close but not as close as my mom and I are, I’m making him a special scrapbook of the dogs and his late cats.  That way it’s personal and shows him I care without being too personal Smile

I’m making a photo album for my parents who are paying for the entire wedding.  I found a scrapbook type album at AcMoore and plan to print all my photos at Walmart once we get them. I thought about getting them a gift cert to a nice restaurant as well.  We aren’t giving anything to Fiance parents, they are not contributing anything but negativity.  I may change my mind and give them a very small album with only a few pics in it.

@chittychittybanebane: What etsy seller? I love those!

I would totally agree with chittychittybanebane. I am going to handerkerchief for my dad as well. We are getting the groomsmen cufflinks and I am going to get my Dad a pair as well, and maybe a tie clip.  I was thinking of doing pearl necklace/earring sets for the moms.  ETSY for all items. Got to love that site!  Good Luck!

Ack, is parent gifts normal??

I bought a ring for my mom, but that was because she made my dress. Well, I should think of something for Dad — but he is SUPER hard to shop for, it is a source of stress every birthday and holiday!

Hmmm…that is a good question! I’m actually the maid of honor but I should definitely see if my sister and her fiance have thought about this yet. But a great list of thoughtful and unique ideas that can work is this guide Thoughtful Personalized Gifts (That Never Fail). I think anything with photos – preferably from the wedding with them would be pretty awesome.

We are doing parents’ albums (after the fact, of course), Tiffany necklaces for the moms and nice cufflinks for the dads. It will be expensive, but our families have been so generous with their time and emotional and financial support that we felt it was necessary to make room in our personal budget for it. Also, Fiance and I are the first on each side to get married (4 kids on each side) so we thought it would be cool to give something that they may be able to carry forward and wear at each child’s wedding.
