This is our first time buying a home and it has been quite the experience!!! We wrote a personal letter to the seller which how we won out on a bidding war, then we left her a tiny gift basket at the inspection to thank her because we knew the other offers that came in after ours were higher.
We’re now past due diligence and we close in 2 weeks and we’d like to get the seller another gift basket for the sheer panic of how our loan approval happened, and of course for our real estate agent for helping us all through the sheer panic.
What kind of gifts do you think we should give the seller and our agent?

I’ve never known anyone to give post closing gifts to the seller or agent, but it’s a nice thought.
With every house we’ve purchased, the realtor actually has given US a gift on closing day. We’ve gotten restaurant gift cards, bottles of wine and a cheese basket and a throw blanket made in our new town……all were appreciated and completely unexpected.
You must be nicer than me, since I never even considered it! 🙂

@ItWasntMe: I’ve heard that most agents give a gift at closing so I don’t know if we should. We just had a HELL of an awful time! Our house buying experience could easily be made into a blockbuster movie, things came down to the wire with literally 40 minutes to spare.

we just closed on our first home and we didnt get a gift for the seller or their realtor ( we didnt have a realtor doing the work for us) so i have no idea you “are suppose” to do this… i think a wine basket would be nice or a chocolate basket

We closed on our house about a month ago, and we sent our realtor a cookie bouquet the day after closing. We didn’t give the seller or the seller’s agent anything, though.

A nice thank you card is always good. Home baking/bought baking would be greatly appreciated. Flowers sometimes. I once received a gift when I worked in real estate and it made my week because it’s very rare 🙂
I think anything at all would be great!

As an agent, my favorite things to receive are letters and cards. I keep them all. I also received an overly generous gift card to a restaurant I really like from a client recently but they’re just those type of people and I never expect something like that.
Small bouquets of flowers or fruit arrangements are not uncommon either. But like I said, it’s the card I like the most.

just kidding [seller pays the commission], but seriously– both my parent’s are real estate agents (my mom residential and my dad owns his own commercial real estate llc)…the agent will generally buy you a little gift or something for your new home, if you would like to thank the agent do just that—send a thank you note!
As far as the seller goes, when my mother sold a close friends home she took a photo of the home and had it edited (probably in adobe or something) somehow to look like a painting and she framed it and gave it to the seller as a memory. It wasn’t a huge photo, just a small framed painting of the original home for the seller’s new home.
