is it customary to get my mother (mother of the bride) and my groom’s mother a gift as well? i have no problem getting them something to show my appreciation for all of their support, but is it something that people do?

I think so but I’m not 100%. Both my brother and sister gave the parent’s gifts!

Yes, generally the couple gives the parents a gift. We’re giving our parents a photobook of the wedding and a heartfelt thank you note.

- Wedding: February 2013 - Mansion House at the MD Zoo
We are, as a thank you for all the money they’ve given us for the wedding and just because they are awesome. Dad’s too. We’re doing tie clips for the fathers and necklaces for the moms (all are different, and we don’t expect them to wear them that day, just things we thought they would like) and we’re going to give them framed prints once we get our pics back.

all great ideas! thank you! i was leaning towards necklaces just wanted to see if it was something people normally did!

We will be. Photobooks are a given, but we will also purchase them something special for each of them (i.e. I’m leaning towards a pair of diamond studs for my mom) to give them either at the rehearsal dinner or the morning of the wedding.

I was planning to get both of our moms either a smaller version of our album, or a framed picture.
My in-laws are not contributing AT ALL, but my mother is contributing about 80% to our wedding. I want to do a little something extra for my mom as a gift (jewelry?) but I don’t want it to be awkward. Thoughts?

@KC720: whatever you give your mom extra from your Mother-In-Law do that privately. just my opinion, this way there is not awkwardness, and you will have several moments in private with your mom to give her the gift privately.

The day of the weddeing we’re giving moms a custom picture brooch from etsy with a pic of them with Fiance and me as kids. After the wedding we’re filling up electronic frames with wedding, e-party pics, and our e-pics.
