Christmas has come and gone, and we’ve seen a few threads about gifts we’ve received and enjoyed!
Now to talk about what happens to those “unwanted” gifts.
Did you receive anything you can’t/won’t use? Did it come with a gift receipt? If not, what do you plan to do with it? Do you give gift receipts with items that you gift?
Personally, I almost always give gift receipts. The only exceptions are if it’s a food item or if it’s something for my husband, because if it doesn’t fit/doesn’t work he lets me know right away and I’ll just process the return then and there.
For Christmas I received a lot of great, thoughtful things. The only thing I’m having trouble with are a few gifts from my Mother-In-Law. They’re very hobby-specific and I’m not involved with said hobby. There’s no gift receipt, but I know it wouldn’t go over well if I asked her for one…she can take things pretty personally! So now I’m trying to find a good home for the items since they’ll definitely be useful to someone.

I am much like you, I always include a gift receipt unless it is my fiance. If I get an unwanted gift with no receipt I usually try to recycle it in some way or it sits in a closet for years before getting tossed/donated/regifted. I wouldn’t say anything to Mother-In-Law just to avoid any awkwardness or upset feelings

vee1980 : my mom is checking with a friend of hers to see if she can use them. If not, they’ll definitely be donated!

I think I can count on one hand the amount of gifts received from my Mother-In-Law that I’ve actually liked. Most things usually go in the spare wardrobe and then eventually the op shop. After this Christmas we now have a big metal iguana on our balcony ugh. She loves giving gifts though, so I always just pretend I like them!
