2 years ago I got my Darling Husband a membership to the Beer of the Month club.  Every month, they delivered 12 beers from different craft breweries across the country.  He absolutely LOVED it!  I will never be able to top that gift.

We have enough “stuff” so my goal in recent years has been to give him unique things or experiences. For his birthday this past year, I got us tickets to see his favorite band in Montreal. This meant a weekend trip since we live in NY. We stayed overnight in a nice hotel and had a great time. He was so surprised since he didn’t even know the band was going to be playing so close to home. He LOVED that gift.

My personal fav, however, was the vintage Apple poster that I found and had professionally framed for him. Darling Husband is a total Apple fanboy (even got a call to go work for them a few months ago – he’s an iOS developer). I stalked ebay for months before finding one within my price range. It had some minor water damage but that’s what made it affordable (still paid over $100 for it!). Had it been in perfect condition, it would have been well over a grand just for the poster. I then had it professionally framed with this fancy glass so that it never fades. All together, the gift was pretty expensive when you think about the fact that it’s just a poster (like $400 total) but he was absolutely floored when he opened it so that makes it well worth the money spent.

There have been plenty of other gifts over the years but these have been the best, in my opinion.

We don’t usually buy each other gifts, we never have.  the last gift i got him was a $600 Vestal Watch.   I think before that i got him some clothes.    We just don’t really get each other gifts.

I got my Darling Husband a really slick RHR ring for a wedding gift. He had been wearing his wedding band for over a year already, so I figured I’d get him a ring for his other hand! He loved it.

One of SO’s gifts he loved the most from me was a spoiler fin for his car.  (Not the crazy teenager kind, but a nice small one for his luxury car.)  He mentioned it a bunch of times and I would always tell him “you just bought a car, no need to go adding to it right now” but that was just because I knew I was going to get it for him and didn’t want him to ruin my gift lol.  I went onto a forum for people who own his brand of car and spoke to some people there to figure out who to buy it from.  I ended up buying it overseas.  I had the thing in my room at my parents house (before we lived together) for months because I was waiting for Christmas.  He was so surprised and had no idea and of course he started watching the weather like a madman trying to find a non-freezing day so he could install it.  Then he made me take pictures of him installing it.  *shakes head* (haha)

I set the bar really high for FI’s first birthday we spent together. I had some extra money at the time, and I bought him his dream guitar. He lost his mind, and still plays it every day.

I’m right there with @UpstateCait:  – neither of us are big fans of ‘stuff’ so we tend to give each other experience gifts. In no particular order these are his faves among the various Christimas, birthday gifts I’ve given him over the years:

– long weekend in the Bahamas

– concert tickets (we made a weekend of it, just the two of us)

– took him skydiving

– Massages

– golf lessons

– coupon book for massages, chores completed, dinners of his choice and his all time fave; BJs

For his first bday we were together for, I made him a photobook with pictures of us from the last year together. He loved it and it has become a tradition. I make him one for his birthday every year.

For his birthday last sept I gave Fiance a bunch of pictures of the 2 of us doing different things together  and framed them in this very pretty frame with stand. For our anniversary I got him a I.d bracelet that has the date of our first date on the bottom with his name engraved on top and the chain part is a bicycle style chain.

@RahlyRah:  OMG I am stealing this idea!

The gifts my Darling Husband have been the most happy with were the ones of things he has been wanting FOREVER, but could never bring himself to buy it. Like this year, I bought him this camera/laptop backpack he’s been wanting for the past 2 years.

I usually make him a surprise dinner and dessert. I change what I make every year, so even though he knows there’s dinner and dessert at home he never knows what exactly I’m making. I honestly think this is his favorite part of his birthday.
