Since I know a lot of you Bees are doing your own invites and paper stuff, as well as crafts, I figured I’d post this for anyone needing a program like Photoshop but not wanting to pay the small fortune it costs.
GIMP is a FREE program that is A LOT like Photoshop. You can use Photoshop brushes (which you can get free from DeviantArt and various other places around the wed) easily.
This means photo manipulation can be done easier, and making stuff is A LOT easier than using Paint!!!
Hope this helps some of you!!!! Did I mention it’s FREE????

Thanks so much, I’m starting to play around with my DIY invites…and Photoshop is NOT in my budget, LOL!!

I downloaded this and since I’ve never used Photoshop, I’m at a TOTAL loss! Any pointers?

For actual invitation design and such … basically anything that requires a lot of text and image dropping, I would use the free version of InDesign over Gimp. I use Gimp a lot for photo editing (can’t afford Photoshop, either!), but it’s more for just that … photo images and creating images … not so much page design.
The free InDesign one is Scribus, I think.

I LOVE GIMP!!!! It is so amazing, and there are a lot of tutorials on youtube for any beginners.
I did the front of my invites with Gimp (that’s as far as I’ve gotten for now).

Another vote for GIMP! It was a godsend when I just had to do something even simple like making our inserts and combining an image of a map with some text to an image I could upload to a printer. I couldn’t believe something that simple couldn’t be done in MS Word, but you need a graphics program. This is a great free one!

I loooooove Gimp! I used it for my DIY invitations. It can be a little confusion there are so many tutorials out there that you can do a simple google search to find out how to do whatever you can imagine. I personally think it’s a lot easier to use than photoshop.
