Communal bathrooms are dirty places. You’re better off keeping your personal items at your desk, anyway. I don’t even use my work’s community fridge. I keep a cooler in my car. I’ve had something taken from me at least once, at every place I’ve worked. You can never be too careful. There’s always that one person.

I never leave things of any value at work. I assume anything, even a half eaten granola bar or a paper clip, left at work will be stolen.

Did a cleaning staff come in at any point? They may not know there are only two women in that workplace and might think of things like hairspray and floss as communal.
As satisfying as it might be to tell her you are pretty confident she is the one stealing from you, you also can’t prove anything. She might acknowledge it, apologize and repay you but she might also get really defensive and deny which would make things more awkward that this situation is really worth in my opinion. If I were you I would stop leaving stuff in the bathroom. Sounds like you had a good deal before being the only woman, but unfortunately that has changed.

@mohbestie: No cleaning people here, plus I saw the item in her bag which was left open on the counter. Unless we wear the exact same color and brand and what are the chances it’s the same item I am missing that I know I left at work, in my makeup bag.
Also, I do not leave out in the open, its in a makeup bag in a drawer. Its a nice bathroom with 3 drawers and cabinets all empty. I walk at lunch and I like to freshen up or if I go out after work I was always able to get ready with no issues up until now.
I am the stupid one for trusting my stuff would be left alone.

I would take a permanent marker and put my name on all my items. I did that in college and it solved the problem for me.

@bearinabeecostume: Side note what kind of cooler do you use thats good enough for a full work day? Like brand and type? I’m looking into that for when office time resumes…there’s some nasty people at my work.

@sweatergal007: I have a couple of them: a Yeti Roadie 20. I use the big Yeti ice, and it stays cool for up to two days. I also have an RTIC Softpak lunch box. It stays cold for about a day with the smaller Yeti ice in it. Both coolers keep my food cold even if I don’t add the ice that day. I like the Yeti best because it’s big enough to where I can sometimes throw a couple days’ worth of lunches and snacks in it. They’re both pricey coolers, but I’ve used them daily for over 5 years, plus I take them camping and on road trips.

@jordan1234: I’m not saying I don’t believe you, I am saying you don’t have proof. If you accuse her and she denies what exactly can you do about it? You can’t tell you Management that you are missing makeup and saw she has the same one. That isn’t proof. I just think going down that path will result in an even bigger mess and won’t be worth it
