I wouldn’t pronounce any of them as [leahna] because they all begin with an E. But then I’m Swedish and we are very keen on pronouncing our Es. So the names above in your poll I would pronounce as some sort of variation of [ehleahna] or [ehliahna].

ETA: Thay are all beautiful names though 🙂

PLEASE don’t do Elleanna. Consider the girl, and how often she’s going to have to deal with people tripping up on that for her entire life. You can still nickname her Ellie and spell it however you want. Eliana is a GORGEOUS name, congratulations. But Elleanna is awful and maeks me so sad for her if she gets it. And yeah, people will pronounce it ANNA instead of AHNA.

PS – Eliana is a real name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eliana

How about Elliarna, or Eliarna? Just to be different?

Try to put yourself in your future child shoes. The more complicated the spelling the more times your childs name will be misspelled. It may look cute but your child will need to repeatly tell people how to spell their name correctly. It can be a real pain in the butt. Keep it simple do not over complicate it. The child may end up hating and resenting their name later on it life. I know I would if my name keeps constanly getting misspelled especially on important documents such as a social security card, birth certificate, etc. Yes the social security has misspelled people names before and yes it is a pain in the butt to fix. Just warning you.

Bored6:  Yes! It may be cute for future parents to dream up and invent creative names, but it is a B#### to live with one.

I love Eliana Sophia. It works best in Spanish and English. I wouldn’t worry about the nickname either, I think Ellie makes sense.

siempresoulmates:  Yes, I understand that you think it’s a cute name, but please try to understand that NOBODY will assume that spelling, unless her name is pronounced “Elle – Anna.” It’s going to be really really rough for her. I’m not trying to be rude, but if I can save even one person the frustration of spelling her name out every single day of her life, then it’s worth it.

planningaway:  That’s a bit mean and uncalled for!

To be honest where I’m from I’ve never heard the name before, and reading all the suggestions that OP has put forward, they all sound different to me.  I don’t read any of them starting as an L sound as others have suggested, except the ones starting with “elle”.

In all honesty I think she should just call the baby Ellie  if that’s what it’s going to be called most of the time! And I pronounce this as nelly, but without the N!

I think Eliana makes the most sense phonetically.
