Mine was just stupid. After making several loud comments that my engagement ring looked just like her daughter-in-law’s (to which I jokingly asked if they had bought it from Goldsmiths) one woman took my ring in her hand and checked it out all the way round – my stone is set low so it doesn’t really have much of a side view. She acted as if she was admiring it but I know she was really checking for the hallmark. She found it, because her eyes settled on it. She then told me her daughter-in-law’s had a white gold band – I didn’t really know what to say because it was a totally random comment, so I just said I loved white gold and had a white gold bracelet and necklace (which I do). My fiance  then said “Oh, Becky’s ring is platinum” – he wasn’t  trying to be horrible but he could tell she’d annoyed me because she was just rude. It’s lovely when people compliment my engagement ring but she obviously thought it couldn’t possibly be platinum and diamond because it was mine. She didn’t say anything after that, but kept glancing at it all the way through our meal. I felt like saying, “It’s a piece of metal with a stone attached, get over it!”

My center stone is a .75 carats but it is surrounded by many pave stones AND a halo setting so it sparkles like crazy and the TCW is around 1.2carats so just this past weekend one of my friends that I havent seen since the engagement said “DANGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG” lolllll! Just like that….I was laughing but slightly embarassed b/c it was like 7 ppl standing there with us at homecoming, lol! It was funny though and that’s his personality so everyone just laughed.

One of our friends asked DH if he missed his kidney… We just laughed and DH joked back.

@ShellVee: Thank you girl! I didn’t notice your compliment before. Why anyone says anything but positive things about engagement rings is beyond me as well – it’s usually women though. My biggest peeve is when they immediately dismiss it because it isn’t thier taste. Ex. “I wouldn’t want something so X, I will pick something more Y.” I have learned (from weddingbee!) to answer very calmly with a big smile “Good thing you don’t have to wear my ring then, right?”

For the record, I do get lovely compliments from kind people more often than not. So I’ll survive 🙂
