So my husband and I are hoping to be pregnant within the next 6 months or so. I’m super excited, but now this whole weight gain thing has me nervous. I know you’re supposed to gain weight while you’re pregnant for the health of the baby. But at only 5’2″, I’m afraid that what should look like a cute baby bump is just going to look plain ol’ fat on me!
So to all the petite ladies out there…show me your baby bellies so that I can anticipte what my new body would look like!

I’m 5’3- here’s my 30 week photo:
I haven’t gained as much in my hips/thighs as I thought I would, but I’m still a bit thicker in those areas than I was. It seems mostly in the belly for me 🙂

@DaneLady: Wow you look amazing! I’m only 5′ 2″ and have been wondering this lately. Everyone wants to be the girl who only shows in her tummy but us shorties have less room to store those extra lbs. I hope I look at great as you when I’m pregnant someday!

This gives me hope! You look great and your bump is adorable. Definitely all baby!

I’m 5’3 and this is me earlier this week at 20 weeks
ETA: at 20w 3 d, I’ve only gained at 10lbs (I was 142 before getting KU) and so far it’s all in the belly. I haven’t noticed it anywhere else except this morning, I noticed a little bit of a double chin while making faces at myself, but I don’t think i’ve gained it anywhere else. (I’ve been taking weekly pictures so I can compare!)

Aww, thanks guys! I was super athletic before getting pregnant, so I’ve been able to stay fairly active throughout the pregnancy so far. I feel big as a whale, but then I look at pictures and think “well, it’s not so bad I guess!” I was less worried about the weight itself and more worried about space since I have long legs and a short torso. I find that I get fuller faster and have to snack often or eat several small meals since my stomach won’t expand as easily. In certain positions I have a harder time breathing deeply, again- things are more compressed in there.
With each passing month I become more and more amazed at what my body is capable of doing. I might not feel amazing, glowing, or beautiful, but I’m doing really REALLY hard work, and that is beautiful 🙂

A lot of it will depend on your shape now.
I’m just under 5’3 and was pretty slender before I was pregnant (just over 100lbs); I only gained about 25 lbs and was all belly and boobs. I could still wear pre-pregnancy jeans at the end if I did the elastic trick (looping an elastic around the button and through the buttonhole) as I had no change in my hips and thighs.

@DaneLady: @anotherbee: You two both look great, still very petite!
I would love to see more pics… I’m barely 5’1 on a good day and people tell me I’m going to “show right away” and look huge when I’m pregnant. I’m holding on to some bigger work pants from before I lost weight for my wedding, just in case my booty/thighs decide to blow up.

@DaneLady: & @anotherbee: you both look sooooo beatiful and adorable!!! and it does give me hope. Iam also 5’3 and i always wondered how i would like when pregnant…Congratulations!!

I’m 5’2″ and around 135 pre-preg. At 16 weeks I’ve gained about 8 pounds, all chest and belly. If you know I am pregnant and I’m wearing a sweater plus maternity pants, my baby bump is obvious. To people at work, who have seen me wearing these clothes…when I tell them, nobody has suspected. I can fit a few pairs of pre-preg “fat pants” and when I wear those you can’t tell.

I’m 5′ and currently 21 weeks pregnant. It’s been all in my belly so far, and I noticed gaining a little weight in my thighs, too. Here’s my latest pic from 19 weeks:
I post my pics in the June/July/August bumps thread if you wanna see what it looks like later on! I’m scared of how big my belly will be near the end, haha. I noticed that my short/small frame has made me show very quickly.

I am 5’2″ and was 125 lbs to start. I started showing like, immediately and I have looked more pregnant than I am so far. I am 15 (almost 16 weeks) and have gained a lot of belly, thigh and boobs. The thighs are a little depressing but the belly is cute. So this is 15 weeks, 12 weeks, and 6 weeks::

Short women look better pregnant, I think. It’s obvious earlier that they are pregnant! On taller women like me (i’m 6’1″) it looks like a fat pooch until you’ve really popped after the 5 month mark. Depressing. I’d rather look pregnant than fat!

I’m 5’2 and showed super early too.
My last 2 pics, 19 weeks and 21w2d. I’m still in the same size pants as before (albeit maternity ones now) and most of my pre pregnancy clothes is still ok as long as it can stretch over my belly. I’m just now getting to the point of needing maternity tops because after they stretch over the belly they get a bit short for my liking. I’ve only gained about 12lbs total so far. You will probably just show super early since your torso is likely fairly short.

I think it has more to do with your shape than your size. If you are short waisted, like my mom, (we are both petite), there is less room for baby to go, so you go straight out. I have a little more room as I am long-waisted and a little taller (Almost 5’4″) That said, I am pretty much all belly, straight out the front. I also thought I’d gain more in my thighs but I haven’t much. Anyway, here’s me last week at 34 weeks. And as a frame of reference, here was me at 18 weeks with just a little bump:
