I like Girls but it’s much different than Sex and the City. The latter is all glamourous and stylized while Girls is supposed to be more like real life.

Sex and the City is a good show, because they didn’t try to make it like real life.  Girls is just annoying, entitled girls thinking they can make it in NYC.  It’s like hipster paradise or something.

I could only watch one episode before getting annoyed, though.  I just think…if you’re going to have a show that is about fantastic people in NYC, make it obviously NOT real, like SATC. That’s more honest than claiming that your fake show is realistic.

Girls is clearly set in an alternate reality where the population of NYC is 99.2% middle & upper middle class white anglo saxon protestant people.

@springwed8:

I think I watched six episodes. But then I have a thing for really really BAD television. It’s a character flaw.

I love Sex and the City, because I just think it’s mindless, fun entertainment. I could not get into Girls though. Maybe it’s because I live in NYC, though, and I’m sick of people saying, “Omg, it’s so real!!” I didn’t find that I could relate to it at ALL. I found all of the characters annoying and I just don’t see the real-ness–I don’t know anyone like those people.

I watched both.  But I found Sex and the City more appealing and had the “re-watch” factor for me.  I still re-watch old episodes of SATC.  I thought Girls was a bit awkward and Marnie’s dilated pupils were super distracting.  Girls was just okay for me.

I love Sex and the City, mostly because it’s entertaining/funny and I can rewatch.  I only watched a few episodes of Girls and I couldn’t get into it.  So I will say I don’t like Girls, most of the characters annoyed me real fast.  Haven’t watched it since.

I am 33 and I love Girls. It reminds me a lot of the stupid things I did in my early 20s and I like seeing somebody who looks like a regular person in a leading role. It’s also often hilarious.

I didn’t watch Sex & The City because I was in college when it was on and we had more important things (beer) to spend our money on, rather than cable.

I like them both, but for obviously very different reasons.  Honestly, I feel like the two have nothing in common except for the setting and the ensemble cast.
