My best friend and bridesmaid is a big girl, dangerously so, I’m actually having to order our bridesmaid dresses from the US as even our plus sizes don’t go up that high.

Maybe don’t ever phrase it like this to your curvy girls.   I haven had the wedding yet so no pictures to share, but I’d say let her choose something she feels good in and then see if it will fit into your vision.

I didn’t have plus size bridesmaids but to help them, you need to stop referring to them as “big girls” What are your wedding colors? give them a color and fabric and let them pick whatever they’re comfortable in. it seems you’re into the retro look, you can accomplish this look with hair, make up, and shoes.

@Darcy212:  You dont have to skirt the issue.  I’m just saying that the way you stated it made you sound like you were disgusted with her.  “big girl” has a really negative tone to it.  Plus size is fine if you don’t like curvy.  But really, if you aren’t a plus size woman you don’t really have a say in what is OK to say and what isnt.  Just sayin’.

Have you considered the mismatched bridesmaids dresses idea? I was pretty opposed to it, but then I saw some awesome pics of them around the hive and I am a convert! My dresses are already purchased, but if I were to do this again, I’d just give them a colour idea (and not even that specific, just like “blue” or “green” or “yellow” and let them choose the shade they like best) and let them run with it.

@Darcy212:  You don’t have to refer to them as dangerously big / large. Are you plus size? If you’re not, i doubt you’re friends are ok with you using such degrading terms to describe them.

Like PP stated, i think plus size is a better word than the ones you chose in this thread.

Actually, bringing up the name calling can help your issue, your bridesmaids don’t want to try anything on or even shop with you because of your way of belitteling them.

@Mcda04:  I see what you’re getting at. And while I agree that the terms she used weren’t super sensitive, I think it’s a pretty sweeping statement to say that her bridesmaids won’t want to try anything on or go shopping with her. You haven’t met these women. You don’t know them. She does. I think it would be fair of you to say that, if you were in their shoes, you wouldn’t want to go shopping or try things on. However, this thread has gotten pretty attackey on the OP and she wasn’t asking us for different terminology, but for inspiration pictures.
