You mean giving cake as the favor? That is actually rather traditional. Pretty much everyone over 50 will be entirely familiar with this, and you never see it nowadays! Weird, huh? Probably because cakes now cost $8 plus per slice, and many receptions are evening (another thing that isn’t traditional).

I think it is a lovely idea, very classy. If you are having an evening wedding, though, I would serve some cake there, nd have more (sheet cakes!) in the back to send home.

I did it!

We bought generous cake boxes and custom designed labels with our wedding colors to seal the boxes.  We went to the best baker we could find and tasted lots of delicious types of cake before deciding on carrot cake with cheese cream frosting.  We cut the wedding cake, and the boxed pieces were displayed shortly thereafter.  Our only problem with it was that the reception hall cut the cake slices too small, and my parents ended up taking enough cake home for about 40-50 people.  LOL…

People raved about the cake and how delicious it was, but those that knew the slices were to be more generous asked about how the box looked so empty.  🙁

i’ve seen it! and loved it! they were stacked on a table near the door so people could grab them on the way out.  I grabbed one (was tempted to grab 10 more, too…) but it was lost somewhere along the way back to the hotel.  To this day, I suspect that my fiance abandoned it on a chair or in the men’s room as we were trying to make our way out. I was SO BUMMED when i got back to hotel and there was NO CAKE TO EAT!!! tragedy!!!!!!

but i digress…yes, i encourage you to consider it.  guests will love it as a midnight (and post drinking!) snack, and those who might have passed up cake for another dessert (if you have some sort of selection) will appreciate the chance to partake in the cake.

All the single woman at the wedding are supposed to sleep with a piece of cake under their pillow that night and they will meet their true love…or something like that.

Oh my goodness. Is the cake supposed to still be in the box when they put it under their pillow?  How gross is messy cake under a pillow?
