Ok, thanks guys. Please give me any edits. I read it for a friend today and she helped me a bit, but I’m still not sure! It runs about 3 1/2 min, which they told me 3-5 so I’m good.
As someone who has known Micole from afar for most of my life and then much closer for the past few years, I think I speak for all of us when I talk about the light around her. There is a genuine kindness and sweetness that you feel just being around her. Quick to smile and make a self-deprecating joke, she pretty handily puts you at ease.
Let’s start back in 1985. Reebok high tops were cool, pink and purple bikes were cooler. Micole was in Mr. S’s class with me. She was blond and blue and just the prettiest, coolest cheerleader girl. None of this changed all during our years at school together. Our paths rarely crossed, but I always admired her.
Now we will flash forward to 2008. I’m back in Philly and thanks to facebook reconnect with Micole. We shared some awkward emails and finally set up our first date. December 19, 2008. I was nervous- what if she didn’t like me? What if I had food in my teeth or spilled something? Seriously, like a real first date you guys. We met up and it was SO EASY. We ate and laughed and talked about our messed up relationships. We shared a bottle of wine, and then some more. This date was going great and neither of us wanted it to end. So we headed out to meet up with her friend Mike and some of his friends.
We showed up fresh off of a Biggie sing along and continued drinking. We chatted with Mike, who introduced us to a tall handsome guy in a blazer. The rest of the night is a blur, but I remember during our long text-a-thon the next day that Micole mentioned she had given some guy Jerry her number. The guy wearing the blazer to the bar all stuffy like? I heard from Jerry that he told some friends later that night that he had met his person. Well, they had a marathon first date and after that neither of them looked back. I know Micole knew pretty much immediately that this person was her future, but she was so easy about it. Their relationship has been uncomplicated and smooth since day one. Truly, it was meant to be from the very beginning.
I was lucky to spend lots of boozy nights with them. I remember one night clearly when we met up with Jerry about 4 hours into a bar crawl. Micole was giving him a hard time because 4 hours into a bar crawl is a tough time for anyone, let’s be honest, and Jerry looked me dead in the eye (well, his eyes may have been a bit unfocused) and emphatically, with that big smile, said to me “I love this girl.” I will never forget that. That was a special moment to me.
I was sad that he took her away to DC- the fun was just beginning, but I knew she had to go. And then the wait. We waited and waited and waited for a proposal. She got mad, I got mad. She was ok with it, I was still mad. And then I got the call… “I am going to propose tomorrow. I need your help.” He told me he had the ring and slept with the box in his hand because he didn’t know what to do with it. I spent the entire day of Feb 10, 2012 near tears because I knew what was going to happen and how happy he was about to make Micole. I played my part and then waited for the call. That evening he made her the happiest woman. When we met at that same bar where they had met 3 years prior, they were both glowing. I’ve never seen a happier, more in love couple.
I think you can all see that right here, right now through our experience today. And for that, let’s all raise our glass and toast our friends, Micole & Jerry. To many, many happy years.
