So I’ve always drank a ton of soda throughout my life. (My parents have a home video of my mom asking if I want more Coke in my sippy cup at age 1, lol). I typically drink 2-3 sodas a day and would like to be able to stop. I’ve tried limiting it to one a day but then I crave it more and end up drinking more soda than if I wasn’t trying to limit it. I just want to be overall more healthy and my Fiance has influenced me a lot, he gave up soda and alcohol no problem but I’m struggling. I try to run a few miles a day and drink 7-8 glasses of water a day, but I’m in college, my roommates and everyone else is constantly drinking soda, work can be boring or stressful and soda helps. Anyone have any good advice or have gone through this themselves?

If I were you, I would try going cold turkey. See how many days you can go without a soda. Also have lots of other healthier beverages around your home- green tea, fruit infused water, etc. If going cold turkey is too difficult, just keep cutting back like you have been. I have heard that drinking soda only makes you crave even more soda however. That’s why I recommend trying to give it up totally!
I used to drink a huge diet coke everyday, but now I have maybe 2 a month. It had really helped me be less bloated and helped with stomach issues I had.

I stopped cold turkey! I drink a flavored carbonated water instead, but most days just have water. We go out maybe once or twice a month and ii allow myself one mixed drink that will have pop in it.

Switch to a better soda to start with? Maybe something like a juice squeeze or a flavored carbonated water? Try finding other interesting and healthier drinks.

I didn’t drink soda for about 4 years. Honestly, flavored seltzers are the best to substitute! There’s still carbonation and flavor to it and tons of flavors to choose from. I also tried to avoid foods that brought the craving on, lol. Some foods, like Pizza, would make me crave a Coke.

I think the best way is to stop completely. Sure, your body will crave for it for a while but it will stop. If you keep drinking soda every now and then, your body won’t have a chance to learn to stop craving for soda.
I used to drink quite a lot of soda but then just completely stopped drinking it. After a couple of weeks I didn’t even want any anymore. Now I might drink a can of coke once in two months but it isn’t something I crave for. Rather, after drinking it I wonder why I liked soda so much before. In fact, now I find soda quite gross… and I have definitely learned to prefer sparking water over it!

I agree with PPs that seltzer water is probably the best substitute to decrease/eliminate your soda intake. There’s always the flavored kinds but I love plain seltzer with like me thrown in 🙂
